How to plan a plumbing renovation?

    hi folks,

    Myself and the missus moved into our home, a 1950s terraced two storey earlier this year. We would like to upgrade the heating / plumbing system.

    We have a long wishlist and will obviously get someone in to do it for us. It would be nice however to have some idea what they'll be talking about, and to be able to make an educated assessment of the different options that might be presented.

    What's a decent resource to find out about current best practice and what might be doable on a renovation?

    == Our wishlist / issues ==

    The house has already been rewired.

    Walls are concrete.

    The gas boiler went a couple of months ago and we replaced it.

    We want to put in a downstairs toilet / shower where the current kitchen sink is and to move the sink [and washing machine and dishwasher] into what is now the dining room.

    The shower runs off the mains. The pipes around the house and attic are a mix of microbore, qualpex and one inch copper.

    We would like to get a stove in the living room that feeds into the heating system.
