Logbook Question

hi all I done a PX to an individual just before christmas and checked the tax website and its correct in saying "Transferred to an Individual on : 22/12/2015 "

but my new logbook hasnt turned up as of yet , can i still tax the car ?

tryed just got this

" PIN Retrieval Unsuccessful
Details entered are incorrect. Please try again. If you have recently changed address and not notified the Department, please enter your previous address. You can amend your address when processing your motor tax transaction online."

that means the seller didnt send off my book as of yet yes ?

not transferred over i would think so , is it still taxable even tho im not registered yet could anyone clarify ?

yes possible but you need the previous owners details or for them to do it.

It may be slow as Christmas post and all that.

You be ok keep copy of logbook details on you and show you just purchased it in case a gaurd asks.

If the change of ownership is still work in progress then taxing it online would mean they might send the disc to the previous owner's address. Best hold tight, they are very busy at this time of year with new car registrations so they may be just working through the backlog.

if i was to call into the tax office in person , could i tax it ? AFAIK all i need is insurance , NCT and my address and disc would be handed to me there just asking on here first incase i make an ass of myself in the morning haha

i just checked the "VEHICLE STATUS ENQUIRY DETAILS" it came back with "No Changes notified in the last 3 months"

Yes, according to the Dept of Local Government website

Renewing motor tax where there is:
a change in ownership, following completion/dispatch of the relevant change in ownership form, viz. RF200 (pre 1993 vehicles), vehicle licensing certificate (post 1993 vehicles) or vehicle registration certificate (post May 2004 vehicles)

The following are required to renew motor tax in these circumstances:

• Tax renewal Form RF100A available from Motor Tax Offices, Public Libraries and Garda Stations.
• Appropriate fee

If it says transferred to an individual then it's been changed over but you may not have received the book yet. In this case you can go to the tax office and tax it without the logbook as the car has been transferred to you.

However if the tax was out before last day of December you will have to pay December's tax + a minimum of three months tax as the car was transferred during December.

I'm confused though as you say in another post that that the motortax website say that it hasn't been transferred over? Or did I read it wrong?

haha its hard one explain ....

i swapped my passat for a 320d ...

i sent off the passat book that day , its transferred to new owner now as website says

but nothing yet for the 320d .

you have ten days I understand after change of ownership to declare the car off road (if it was) . Then tax from 1st Jan

The car was purchased on the 22nd of December though so the ten day window has passed.

Just keep checking the motortax website to see if it's changed over. When it is you can go in and tax it.

indeed you can do a PIN retrieval and do it online .
