Repressurising central heating

From what I have read in this forum and elsewhere, it seems that my central heating system needs repressurisation. It is a sealed system (no overflow tank in the attic) and the primary heat source is a solid fuel range. We have an oil boiler too, but don't use it.

I should clarify... my reason for believing that the system needs pressurisation is that the downstairs rads get hot but the upstairs ones do not. They get warmish around the top of the rad, but that's all.

The system in my closet is this pic... I believe the 2 outlets ringed in blue need to be connected to repressurise... can anyone confirm?

This is a closeup of the pressure gauge...

Any help would be greatly appreciated. The plumber explained nothing to be when he plumbed the house so I am kind of lost.

I'd be very surprised if he pressurised the system through those connections, that's a solar pump station and 2.5 Bar is quite satisfactory.

Hi... thanks for the reply. Would you have any idea what I should be looking for?

    Hi Gerry,

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you, but to be frank, I was hoping someone else would step in.

I have a few reservations. You mention that it's a sealed system, but primarily heated by a solid fuel range? That could be an issue as you have a potentially uncontrolled heat source connected to a sealed system.

Also the solar system is connected to a heat exchanger. That's a bit unusual. It may be because you have a twin coil hot water cylinder and three heat sources, but usually a heat exchanger will only be fitted by someone with a good knowledge of heating systems.

Problem is, someone with that knowledge would know that the the heat exchanger needs to be insulated, and that the outlet from the solar PRV does not.

I think you need to get someone knowledgeable to look at your system and to poke it with a sharp stick.
