Gillian Jacobs and Paul Rust star in the 10-part comedy - set to launch on Friday, February 19 in all Netflix territories.
Love follows nice guy Gus (Rust) and brazen wild-child Mickey (Jacobs) as they navigate the exhilarations and humiliations of intimacy, commitment, love and other things they were hoping to avoid.

They've had plenty of romantic misses. But when a jaded Angeleno meets a nerdy guy, they may figure out this "love" thing. A Netflix Original Series by Judd Apatow.

Typically Judd Apatow, by the first episode, anyway.

Early Apatow (Freaks and Geeks/Undeclared) or late (This is 40/whatever his most recent one was.. I'm having a brain fart)?

Judging it solely on the first episode, it is much much better than the stuff he has released lately.

yea I am enjoying it - an easy 30 min watch some good one liners !

Binged on this and loved it (no pun intended!)..

.. Paul Rust and Gillian Jacobs have great chemistry and it's all very well written for the most part.

    Hoping for more..

EDIT: Netflix gave the show a 2 season order so another 12 episodes next year

Yeah I finished it over the weekend too. Not overly sure what to make of it really. I'm a big fan of Apatow's stuff (editing issues apart) and the humour in this is right up my street, but I found myself disliking both lead characters by the end of the series, I know they were both written with significant flaws intentionally but it kind of lead to me not caring what happened to either of them. I almost found myself not attracted to Gillian Jacobs by the end which I thought was impossible. Almost.

The date episode was a highlight and the Australian roommate was very good throughout. Comparisons to 'Master of none' are inevitable and, in my opinion, it doesn't match up to it. 6.5/10 for me but will watch the 2nd series when it comes out.

  • Wasn't hooked on this at all after episode one but kept going..on fifth one now and really enjoying it. I find it really sweet and I think the word lovely describes it best!

This was very watchable. Nothing spectacular, no massive explosions of laughter, but enough to keep the attention and raise a few giggles.

Some good music used in the soundtrack too, which is always a bonus!

Good show but undermined by the massive contrivance at the heart of the story, that a weedy geek like Rust would ever have a chance with a godess like Jacobs.

Goddess? On this show, she looks like a dirty bitch, and probably stinks of smoke and alcohol.

There's hot guys who are turned on by nerdy girls, and the reverse is also true.

The character isn't very nice either so I don't think it's too far a stretch.

My first impression too. The fact that the description on Netflix pretty much says "these two will get together", coupled with Rust being one of the creators put me in mind of "this guy ends up with Gillian!?!". The opening episode (that's as far as I've watched) portrays singledom as a miserable existence.

Good to see Mädchen Amick & Milana Vayntrub though.:)

Its a comedy show made in LA, do you really want to get hung up on the accuracy of the storyline?

The real contrivance and frustration for me is
How does Mickey afford that house and all the beautiful furniture?
*Looks around at pathetic cheap IKEA sh1t in my apartment......*

Or Natalie, or the sisters, or Bertie, or the blonde from the party or Heidi...

Absolutely, I could not get my head around this. It was watchable but the two Guss and Mickey were extremely unlikable. Guss in particular was a complete ass, as mentioned above

Watching Love made me wish I had a bigger nose, smaller eyes and was six inches shorter; I'd practically be fighting em off!

Also, to echo what others said, Mickey doesn't appear to have one redeeming quality, I'm sure I wasn't the only one cheering Gus on when he somehow got off with the hot Canadian.

Overall though, a decent show which, after a really strong start, kinda lost its way towards the end.

Thought this was fantastic. As someone who typically hates standard 'rom-coms' this was very welcome - a satire and subversion of the same things. One of the problems with many studio romantic comedies are that the protagonists are horrible people, or at least one of them is, making it near impossible to root for them. Love acknowledges that fact, making its two leads deeply flawed and often straight-up unlikeable people. That makes their courtship fascinating, as the audience isn't encouraged to root for them, even if one could argue they deserve each other and the various destructive consequences their relationship will have. That's something the series takes a lot of time to explore especially in the final episodes - the last scene in particular plays out a standard rom-com ending, but with a deeply melancholic, depressing twist.

The cast are excellent, especially Claudia O'Doherty who brings tonnes of charm and depth to a the quirky but exploited best friend archetype (her scene at the studio tour was a brilliant example of how the show refused to apologise for Mickey and Gus's actions). Rust and Jacobs are also great, both able to transition between lovable and asshole modes in the space of single scenes.

While Judd Apatow's films have increasingly left me cold, this definitely is reminiscent of his better TV work - although it's not quite Freaks and Geeks, because nothing is Freaks and Geeks. It has the time and space to explore characters in depth, and not restricted to having to wrap up everything neatly and happily at the end. This is a messy, astute and funny relationship study that bravely explores a misguided contemptorary courtship. Warts and all. It's something that could easily be messed up if care isn't taken in season two. But for now anyway this is a defiantly alternative take on a well-worn tale that takes its characters down some dark and surprising paths. Not bad at all for what could easily have been just another disposable comedy series.

    Ugh, Britta's Mickey's the worst.

Just got around to finishing the series today. Really enjoyed it - Paul Rust and Gillian Jacobs were both great, but the supporting cast were also fantastic, Claudia O'Doherty (Bertie) and Briga Heelan (Heidi) especially.

Those film theme song parties seem like great craic too. :D

Delighted to see another season of this coming, thought the first deserved more recognition than it got.

I really liked the first season. People complained the characters were annoying, but wasn't that the point!?

Season 2 is out now. 12 episodes. Sick from work today so binged through them all.

Not so much a spoiler but I'll put it just in case.
think i picked up on the nerdiest joke of the show when they mentioned how in friends that Die hard exists and then Bruce Willis appears later as a character and how tv shows should pay more attention to these things. Then after a home alone reference, Daniel Stern pops up as Mickeys dad

In the middle of season 2 at the moment. The first was generally enjoyable, though a little hit and miss.

The second started off slow, but have just finished ep. 5 and thought that it was a little masterpiece, and cements how much better it is getting. The characters are becoming more convincing, and the relationship between the two main leads too. It is a very LA show, and is beginning to use the city itself as more of a backdrop, which only adds to it.

But just on ep.5; a lot of the two seasons so far have had a lot of conflict and neuroses mixed in with the comedy - this ep. is just simple,
two people spending the day together, no arguments, subtle humour, a slow, slow drawing together of two people who have spent the previous year in various states of chaos. A kind of calm amid the conflict.
    Almost perfect TV.

Stopped watching it after the forth episode. Every single character annoyed me so much, couldn’t take it anymore!

I enjoyed season 1 and thought season 2 was only ok but god season 3 broke me
