    Hi All,

went to start up 04 E class merc W211 today after sitting idle for 3 months and not enough battery to crank engine. Battery is in boot but boot operates electrically via key fob or internal button but no battery to power it. Then tried little key in small key lock just above number plate but key broke off in it, arghhhh.

Any ideas how I would get boot open or other way to charge the car? thanks

How about one of those cigarette lighter to cigarette lighter jump starter things?

Connect the + of a battery battery to the heavy live wire on the alternator. Obviously find an earth too. there may also be a proper charging point somewhere on the engine bay

Halfords would prob be your best bet.Do they have a second smaller battery under the bonnet?

Don't do that, some cars have "smart alternators", charging controllers and a few more bits you shouldn't put jump leads anywhere else except the proper place for your car

see attached file if it has dual batteries to give you an idea

just to close off this thread...

tried every trick I could find on net from using aux battery to trickle charge to using pre-fuse wire in passenger footwell to breaking into the boot.

I ended up calling RAC and the guy had it fixed in a few mins, he charged the battery via the starter motor underneath the car just enough to pop boot, then connected primary battery to his van to start up car.

thanks for all help and advice, I definitely no mechanic!
