2nd key not electronic

I bought a skoda from a skoda dealer mid 2015. Car was a garage car that went on loan during promotional campigns for skoda, so was in perfect condition, decent price and very very low milage.

Its a good car, im not giving out about that.
What botherd me was after i bought it and the salesman was giving me the keys, he gave me the spare key and said "im almost embarrassed to do this, but skoda dont do two electronic keys anymore".

This annoyed me a bit but contract was signed, money had changed hands, maybe i should have known to ask instead of expecting two electronic keys.

My other half really doesnt like the non electric key, and neither do i but on request, a new key, programmed to the car costs 250 quid from the garage!

The key is one small thing in a longer list that skoda have cheaped out on in the latest series of cars, making them still good cars, but not nearly as good value for money, their value proposition is almost gone.

Ive told them that as much as i like the car, the cheaping out on the key is the reason i wont be buying from them again.

Am i being a tad unreasonable?

Probably a cost saving exercise. Im sure you could ring around and get the key cheaper than that?

If that was his opening line then he was expecting you wouldn't be happy with that. Considering they program the keys in house, and it was a decent price already, surely he could have added it in at cost.

Maybe go back and suggest it as a token of goodwill that they do it at cost, 250 seems insane considering you just bought a car of them.

Wouldn't have bothered me, don't think I would have noticed if he hadn't said it.

They got back to me and said they made a mistake in pricing, that the key is a newer type actually only costs 61 quid. Funny how that came out when I questioned them on it. best they can do is 150 inc the hour it takes to program it in(labor).

90 quid seems just above average in Dublin, some higher, more a little lower.

Its really down to if the better half wants it but im inclined to think its a lot.

Where are you based, had 2 electronic keys from the key cutters in the Nutgrove Shopping centre, both about 65, for a RAV4 and a Nissan Juke but both fairly new at the time. Might be worth ringing them, you do have to bring your cert for the car to prove ownership, as well as ID. It also did not take an hour.

They should be charging you about 61 as a courtesy considering money spent (opinion, your obviously not entitled to it).

Gave the chap in Nutgrove a shout, he needs to examine the current key to be sure he can make a 2nd one. Going to take a spin up to him at the weekend. Also gave keyfast a shout to see if they can do it, in case the chap in Nutgrove cant.

Im not paying 160 quid now out of principle. Reasonable or not, they annoyed me with the "oh, sorry we quoted the wrong price" only after i queried it.

I find it very hard to believe a car only goes with one key. I would call up a few skoda dealers and ask is it true skoda only give one key with a new car. I say the dealership misplaced the key and are expecting you to buy a new one. I think there price for labour is ridiculous. I got a basic car key cut recently that was chipped. The key took about 5 mins to cut and was programmed pretty much instantly.

This guy does a new key and programming for €90. So they arent actually being reasonable with the price

It came with two keys, the spare is just a bog standard one that doesnt have remote locking. Thats the issue.

Sorry if my original post wasnt clear on that.

Online configurators show a second remote key can be ordered with a new skoda citigo/seat mii for around €25.

Weird approach for the salesman to take, does he do this every time he sells a rapid or mii or Fabia. apologising for it not having 2 remotes was a silly thing to do. It is what it is.
Not much help to you OP, but he made a bags of it.
