Preferably Audi/Bmw/Volvo/VAG or the like, something modern looking from 01/02 upwards in diesel, no bigger than 2.0 litre. Would like auto but from looking on donedeal for the last few months it's hard get the spec I want in this country.

    Needs:

    Estate
    Auto
    Sunroof
    Leather

Sub 3.5k, is it possible? Really don't want a French car, has to be sporty looking too.

The VAG options may lack leather in the most part, the others should all be available in leather. The rise of air conditioning kind of killed off the sunroof but I have seen some lovely panoramic roofs recently in estates. Automatic, yeah no problem in Mercedes and Bmw anyway, particularly the e class and 5 series. But there is only 1 estate available for every 20 saloons out there. Might take a while to find a good one.

I thought Marmion was way better than Boss the other day. Should he be called up for Ireland?

Have you looked at Saab 93 or 95 estates?

You'd want to be very fast to beat any europeans living in Ireland to a 3.5k diesel estate with leather!

(of course, "we're all europeans now" - I meant "mainlanders" :pac: )

I had a bad Saab experience before...and I'm not into the look of them either.

    It's true.

Had similar cars in NZ and in the UK before. High spec estates. Here not so much...I've been on the hunt for a few months.

Volvo V70 D5. Best seats in that price range and a fantastic Diesel engine.

Tax is few hundred a year but worth it imo.

Thats the problem with the D5 it takes the tax from merely unpleasant to a bit more unpalatable.
Nice unit for sure but getting on now and a lot of folk are getting tired of paying over 1k for the privilege of driving a 2.4 when many are paying less than 300 for the later 2.0PSA versions.
    Its sickening.

Too salesman like for me. I could take or leave the leather though...as long as the seats are in good nick.

Had a look on donedeal there, a fine car, really really nice. Not much in the way of sporty looking ones on it though...there's an ocean race one out of my price range which looks great though. The interior is horrendous in them though, the plastics...God.

After much thought the budget has been extended. There's 7 to 7.5k in the budget now.

Thats a lovely car, looks very well kept and presented. It does seem a tad expensive but maybe its worth it. Im sure a bit less would buy it. I dont like the wheels and lowering though.......but thats just me.

The wheels do look like they should be on an X3 or an X5 don't they.

I'm sure he's rocking at least 150hp more than my 16" wheeled car. Oh well different strokes like.
