I'm travelling via Basel airport in a couple of weeks time and I'm wondering what currency they use at the airport and on the bus service to the SBB station in Basel.

I'm guessing the airport accepts Euro as it's on the French side of the border, but I also believe that the airport as Swiss and French Sectors. Is this correct?

Well if I remember correctly you can buy your ticket from the machine and pay with Card. Other than that you are better off with having some Swiss Frank with you if you plan to spend some time there. I usually get some from a ATM.
As of the Airport being on the French Side, I think that only applies to the operational part of the building, once you leave the exit gate you are in Switzerland.
Some shops take Euro but you can't expect it. It's a bit like traveling to Northern Ireland, some shops take Euro, some don't.

Actually the airport is not on the French site of the border, while it’s inside French territory it has two halves, one Swiss, one French and it depends on which exit / entrance you choose.

When you arrive in the non-Schengen area of the airport you pass through passport control (done by the Swiss Border Police) and simply exit into Swiss part of the airport after the baggage claim area (make sure you choose the right exit).

As to currency in the French sector euros and in the Swiss sector Francs.

However the Bus ticket machine takes Euro and Swiss Francs (no credit cards beside maestro).

You than simply take the Bus Number 50 to the Basel Railway station (Basel SBB), takes about 20 minutes. It’s easy, it used to be fun because the road used to be fenced off to avoid illegal crossing, but with Schengen that is long gone.
