Mazda 6 vs. Honda Accord...opinions

Hi. I am in the market for a car after my last cúnt of a yoke calved and I'd love to get some experience and advice from you guys.

Basically what I desire in a car is something that is something that I can depend on to start up in the morning 100% of the time without throwing a hissy fit of dash lights. I'm not interested in gizmos and gadgets, in fact I'm against too much spec as its all only waiting to go wrong and cost money. Not terribly pushed about performance or handling either, reliability and durability is my No. 1 priority.

Asked my mechanic what would be reliable and he recommended Mazda 6.
Are these a good car, as ? Are there any known problem points? Anything I should look out for? Are they reasonable to run and maintain? Do they have timing belts or chains?

Was looking at Accords too? Same Q's as above please.... But are the Hondas a bit more tech heavy? If so I'd prefer to steer clear for something less finicky.

Any other recommendations for a durable, reliable workhorse saloon are appreciated...

I can totally rule out VW and Volvos so no recommendation please. Nice cars to drive but anyone I know who has/had one gets recurring trouble from various sources. Fúck that shít, no worth the hassle.

I'm looking to spend €5-6k. Something cheap to maintain is also v. important, so ideally I'd like something with a non timing belt design.

I appreciate I'm probably coming at this with a bad attitude but I just want a car that won't be causing me hassle all the time and one that hasn't loads of known problem points that I'll be worrying are going to flare up when I need to go somewhere important.

I have a 10 year old Mazda 6 and it has given me no trouble at all. By far the most reliable car I've ever owned. I've heard they are susceptible to body rust and that may very well be the case. So far, I have had no issues with that.

    I should say I want a diesel.

Thanks 3D. Is yours petrol or diesel.

I'm thinking of ruling out Mazda now as apparently by the hundreds the DPF system fills the sump with diesel and they calf. No thanks.

Mondeos have DMF trouble and shred flywheels.

    Anyone have a Mazda 3?

There is a big difference in considering the reliability of both cars when it comes to petro or diesel engines. Which one are you after?

    Diesel.

    Looking at a Mazda 3 touring, 1.6 diesel. €8k. 100k miles.
is this mad money for what it is?

As far as I know Mazda uses PSA diesel engines. On the other hand Honda make their own and although their fuel economy is questionable they are very reliable in comparison to Mazda's.

Silver has much more milage and being sold private and black is being sold by a dealer. Also the silver one doesnt look as clean as the black one. that may mean nothing but it might mean its not looked after. who knows.

In my opinion the mileage is too high on both. You will be asking for trouble getting one of them.

I see. But is €8k too much for a car like this? I mean a now 7 year old Mazda 3 that is probably regarded as a poor mans car. I just feel it's very expensive for what it is.

What would you recommend me to buy?

I've no interest in cars any more and I just cannot justify blowing €10k on a car. Just seems such a waste of money as far as I can see, I would much rather spend it on other more fulfilling things.

Personally, I think it is. but they've got Ireland's most coveted Fuel System and chape tax, a dealer can and will up price of it.

As for a recommendation, I havent drove an accord so i cant really give an opinion, but i do have a Mazda 6 Petrol I love it and I've had no issues with it (yet) except for sh1te tyres and i will have to change wheels as they're a bit corroded inside the wheel and will lose pressure when the tyre sealent gets a bit old. Also you'll get one of those a decent bit cheaper than a diesel 3
