Could anyone recommend someone to repair an RNS 510 unit in the Dublin or north east areas. The unit itself powers on, but the screen freezes after a few seconds and then all I get is the radio screen but with no sound. I have tried all the short term fixes like the three button reset and disconnecting the battery but they no longer work.
    All replies greatly appreciated.

No one? Surely this is a well known issue with this unit.

That donedeal guy didnt seem to have a clue. When I mentioned "a VW RNS 510" he didnt know what I was on about.

I had already asked him and he seemed clueless. Looks like I'll have to look further afield, there are a few people advertising on eBay UK, but I would have preferred to have it fixed locally.

If you can wait until mid February I'm visiting Dublin and I can fix the nav for you, if it's software related. Barnavave's problem for example is simple.

I have a problem with my unit as well. Keeps rebooting and only gets as far as the VW screen. It does ask for the SWF-CD so I'm holding out some hope it'll work!

Failing that I'll need to get the unit flashed or else the motherboard replaced. I don't think you'd need to be an expert on these particular models to be able to do that - might be wrong.

If anyone knows of anyone that might be able to do the latter, in the Dublin area, that'd be great. Damn RNS 510's are a pain in the.........

I've a problem with mine also, don't know if anyone has ever come across it....

The unit will power itself on and off (mainly off) randomly.
It also seems to lose connection to the sat nav and steering wheel controls, again this only happens sporadically.

But the two are definitely linked as the unit only powers down when the sat nav disconnects and steering wheel controls are gone.

    Anyone any ideas?
Or how did any of the previously mentioned potential repairs go?
