Grass Seed Barrow - Help

A neighbour is fixing up an old wooden seed barrow on the 3pt linkage. The old wood was all rotten and in pieces. They have it all put together measuring the old bits and making all new timber, but have a few questions.

    1. The wheels/cogs inside didn't appear to be in the center of the cutouts in the timber at the rear. Is this they way they were? or do the cogs need to be in the middle?

    2. How much do you open the slide? I came across a post here on boards from 2010 that mentioned "3 match sticks wide". Would anyone have any info on setting/adjusting the opening slides?

    3. There are two slides on the rear, each with a "tab" sticking out to move the slide. They don't know should this tab be towards the top or bottom. Should it be as on the left, or right of the following image.

If anyone had any info / photos / manual etc. that would be great.
    Cheers.

( If a mod could embed the above images, that would be great. )

I'd imagine cogs should be in the middle of the slots,
    I use a 6mm drill bit to measure a (6mm) gap for sowing 11kg/acre.

I'd also have thought the cogs should be in the center, however often there could be a reason they are offset. It maybe designed like that to keep a "well" for the seed and the other side is close to limit the seed going to the trap.

Do the cogs clear the sides when rotated?

Not much help but do let us know what you learn.

wheels should be over opening and as close as possible the opening should be adjustable for different size seeds normal grass seeds are 6mm or around two match sticks side by side.
