RAM and its frequency

My computer has DDR3 SDRAM. I want to add RAM

    speccy says
    Size 3072 MBytes
    Channels # Dual
    DRAM Frequency 665.1 MHz
    CAS# Latency (CL) 9 clocks
    RAS# to CAS# Delay (tRCD) 9 clocks
    RAS# Precharge (tRP) 9 clocks
    Cycle Time (tRAS) 24 clocks
    Command Rate (CR) 1T

what does 665.1 MHz mean? where can i get right RAM. Does it have to be 665.1 MHz.? I am not sure what RAM frequency means?

    Thats 1333Mhz* CAS 9 Ram.

    DDR is double data rate 666ish X 2 = 1333Mhz.

With 3GB of RAM I'd chuck it and start again, is your PC triple channel memory? E.g. is there 3 or 6 sticks in there?

Example of price - assuming trip channel.

Use the crucial memory scanner, you can purchase direct, or take the details on what is provided or the SKU and purchase on an alternative site.

Dual channel There are four slots. One has 2GB and one has 1GB. Can i put a 4 GB in one of the slots making it 7

You can, just remember that if you pput in a stick higher than 1333MHz, then the stick will lower itself to the slowest speed.

    ok thanks

That is what crucial scanner suggested Crucial 4GB DDR3-1600 UDIMM
    CT2498431
    Brand: Crucial
    Form Factor: UDIMM
    Capacity: 4GB
    Warranty: Limited Lifetime
    Specs: DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.5V • 512Meg x 64 •
Series: Crucial Crucial 4GB DDR3-1600 UDIMM
    CT249843.

what is the 12800? is that higher than 1333 MHz? is the 12800 MHz

No, as far as I know that's the controller on the RAM, which isn't inportant for most. The 1600 is the speed in Mhz, which will then operate at 1333mhz to match your others.

12800 is yet another way of measuring ram speed. The one you have there is 1600Mhz. The problem is you have CAS 9 1333. 1600 RAM will work at 1333 but there is no guarantee CAS 11 RAM will work at CAS 9. That said with a lower speed, 1333 vs 1600 it probably will. To be honest as above you're better off checking/selling what you have and buying a new set.

Really? What does it mean then? All the times I've seen it I assumed it was like a controller on SSDs and HDDs.

    What does what mean sorry?

    It's frequency x something = 12800 somethings, mega bits/bytes not sure :) (1600x8). I'm sure someone will correct me.

The crucial scanner disagrees with some programs -speccy and cpu-z i have which say PC3-10600 . speccy and CPU-Z say
    PC3-10700 667 MHz doubled = 667 x 2 which is 1333 Hz

    sandra says PC3 107OOU DDR3

    crucial scanner says DDR3 PC3-12800 DDR3-1600

    Edit: Ok sorted

I'm not sure what your motherboard is, but it can most likely take 1066/1333/1600mhz RAM like most motherboards. There's like £1 difference between 4GB 1333mhz and 1600mhz RAM on Amazon

    Kingston KVR13N9S8H/4 4GB 1333MHz CL9 - £15.81
    HyperX FURY Series 4GB 1600MHz CL10 White - £16.96

Just get whatever. Even if you purchase the 1600mhz one and it's speed is lowered to match your others, it's no big deal. Unless £1 means a lot to you.

You're on the right track, its the theoretical max bandwidth of a module.

Really, its like advertising a battery as 1000mAh instead of 1Ah or a drink as 300ml instead of 30cl, bigger numbers are sexier right? Can be safely ignored by shoppers as long as the important identifiers are correct.

oh i see i thought the 1600mhz one might not work but understand now it would but a little slower.
Unless £1 means a lot to you
    ha ha:D if i had £1 now :D
