Worst thing said by beloved actor (or celebrity)?

John Wayne is beloved by film fans the world over, particular those whose favourite genre is the Western.

However, in an interview in Playboy magazine in 1971, Wayne said the following

“I believe in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to a point of responsibility. I don't believe in giving authority and positions of leadership and judgment to irresponsible people.”

    Pretty shocking.

What do you think is the worst, most offensive comment ever made by a celebrity, who is still beloved in the public's eye?

Charlie Sheen is a bit of a nutter, full on tin foil poisoning.
Oliver Stone and his Castro, Chavez brown nosing is a bit repulsive.

Not an actor, and I'm not really a fan but its hard to top Eric Claptons racist onstage outburst at a concert in 1976 for outragous comments by a celebrity.

Could you write it down for us, please?

I doubt anyone is going to watch more than 10 seconds of this "reconstruction" of events tbh.

I agree, pretty damning stuff, but it cost him his 'beloved' status.

This outrageous statement is brought to you by beloved actor Peter Anthony, who starred in classics such as "The Temptations", "Stark" and From "The Earth to the Moon".

Charlton Heston's presidency of the National Rifle Association, culminating with his speech holding up his rifle saying they'd only get it 'from his cold dead hand'.

This was his response to calls for gun control after yet another school massacre.

Apparently Jennifer Lawrence said she masturbates while watching Larry David.

I never thought it could be possible for anything to ruin a mental image of something like that for me - but there you go, it's ruined!

Actually, Heston's comments were publicised before Moore made his Bowling for Columbine movie in 2002. It was on a TV programme called 'the news' in 2000, 2 years beforehand.

The Columbine massacre happened in 1999, Presidential candidate Al Gore said gun control was part of his election campaign on foot of the Columbine massacre and Heston who was chair of the NRA in 2000 gave his response in the below video clip.

Except that Bowling for Columbine gives the impression that heston said it in the aftermath of columbine and in direct reference to those events. Which is not true. Only one example of the very dodgy editing done by Moore. In short, Moore has been proven to be dishonest and should be stripped of his oscar.

    he made this claim

    which originates in BFC.

    Calm down, calm down ......

The Columbine children were killed in school by gun nut job who used his parents gun bought in local store, Al Gore was spurred to seek gun control laws in his subsequent presidential campaign, Charlton Heston responded to Gore with his 'cold dead hand' speech. 2 years later Michael Moore made his movie about it, where he confronted an early Alzheimer's Heston on his earlier remarks.

Whatever way you look at it, Heston thought it was more important to allow nut jobs their right to bear arms ahead of protecting kids in school by taking the guns out of circulation.

None, sorry it's off topic. I just thought it was a strange statement.

I know he has just died, and people may not want to dwell on something he said 40 years ago, but David Bowie once said the following in an interview in 1976.

“I’d love to enter politics. I will one day. I’d adore to be Prime Minister. And, yes, I believe very strongly in fascism. The only way we can speed up the sort of liberalism that’s hanging foul in the air at the moment is to speed up the progress of a right-wing, totally dictatorial tyranny and get it over as fast as possible. People have always responded with greater efficiency under a regimental leadership. A liberal wastes time saying, 'Well, now, what ideas have you got?' Show them what to do, for God’s sake. If you don’t, nothing will get done. I can’t stand people just hanging about. Television is the most successful fascist, needless to say. Rock stars are fascists, too. Adolf Hitler was one of the first rock stars...

Think about it. Look at some of his films and see how he moved. I think he was quite as good as Jagger. It’s astounding. And, boy, when he hit that stage, he worked an audience. Good God! He was no politician. He was a media artist himself. He used politics and theatrics and created this thing that governed and controlled the show for those 12 years. The world will never see his like.”

In his defence, he later attributed these comments to drugs.
