Just seeing does anyone ever use this service?

Looking to see what the journey time is as I'm planning on getting it into town from the Stillorgan road for work that starts at 6am!

That bus doesn't get into town for 6, years since I used it but it was always around 6.15ish, nor does it go via Stillorgan Road.

It is one of the early morning staff/public buses that doesn't follow normal routes.

    Route of that bus is:

Dalkey- Avondale Rd-Church Rd-Ballybrack Village-Shankill Roundabout-Loughlinstown Hospital-Wyatville Rd- Normal Route 7 via Dun Laoghaire to Vincents Hospital-Donnybrook Garage-Anglesea Rd-Ballsbridge- Route 7 to City. Used to terminate on Burgh Quay to go back out empty.

It was stuck onto the 7D timetable after the demise of the original 8 route even though it does not match any of the other 7D routing.

There used to be a hybrid 84/45 staff/public bus when those routes ran to the city that was at Loughlinstown around 05.40 ish running via Cabinteely and Foxrock Church-Donnybrook and City. Not sure if it still runs, there was also an early staff only run fro Bray garage earlier than either of those.

Haven't kept up with these routes so not sure what runs now apart from the 07.20 Dalkey.

It does go via the Stillorgan Road - from Kill Avenue into town it follows the 46A route i.e. Bakers Corner, Deansgrange, Foxrock Church and then the N11 into town where it terminates at Mountjoy Sq. The route you quoted bears very little resemblance to the current route.

See the fare stages at the bottom of the timetable page here ....

I'm sorry but you are wrong. The 05:20 departure from Dalkey does NOT serve the Stillorgan Road or the normal 7D route despite being in the 7D timetable.

Read the previous post again, which is correct in every detail posted about that departure.

The 05:20 departure from Dalkey does NOT follow the 7D Route - it should have a footnote detailing the precise route that it takes, which is exactly as Vic08 outlined.

That departure is effectively a modified route 7 and should be in both timetables with a significant footnote.

DB know about this error but have yet to fix it either in the timetable or on RTPI.

It's one of the many "lack of attention to detail" mistakes that still persist.

OP - first bus along the N11 is the 06:04 46a.

There actually is a footnote on the 5:20 service but what it says is 'Operates via Donnybrook Garage' which is completely meaningless because the regular service passes the garage anyway - did they originally mean that the service starts from or terminates at the garage  Accept your correction to my post naturally as you're the resident DB expert here.

Is there a reason stillorgan road doesn't have an earlier departure

When you consider alot of the corridors have departures that could get to the city 6am (39, 39a, 25a, 25b, 27, 13) even the 46a going southbound has a service to ucd at 05.15

    Is there no demand?

Nothing more than a lack of attention to detail, lack of understanding at Head Office and a lack of communication between the garages and those providing customer information.

The bus has always operated to the city centre.

The only reason that the earlier buses operate is an historic one to get drivers to the depots. All of the buses that you list are there for that reason and operate hybrid routings.

It's a happy coincidence that they serve the city centre and provide a service for passengers.

The N11 bus was canned when the 84 switched to Blackrock.

The 05:15 46a to UCD is (I believe) due to a special request from the College to get ancillary staff into the campus for 06:00.
