My son is at architect stage of a new build. What heating source would you guys suggest?

It is on an acre of ground surrounded by farmland. It will be a bungalow of about 2300 sq ft. They are aiming to get into the A part of the BER. So the heat demand won't be huge.

If I had the money a boreholed ground source heatpump for the heating and unvented hot water cylinder incorporating a air to water heat pump.

Has your son considered a Passive House? If building again, I would.

Yes he did. Architect advised that A rating would be more cost effective with the design and living habits of occupants. Said that they would never recoup to extra cost going from A to passive. This architect has designed a passive house about 20 km away and my son has been looking at it. It's almost finished now.

    Thanks for the input.
