Hi. I am looking for opinions on thermal scopes and spotters for fox hunting. I know they are expensive but still worth a look. I mostly hunt solo and have had success with mounted lights and nitesite eagle but would like to try something different. Thanks.

From what i understand (and I could be wrong) you need permission for a gun mounted thermal scope but not for a handheld spotter.

I think your spot on there Jim. I have a nitesite spotter extreme which uses ir and have found it the best bit of kit I ever bought.you can do all your calling etc with no lights on and then when your ready and you know exactly where the fox is ,on with the light and bang.I have tried a nitesite type nightvision setup but found it took abit of the fun out of it for the lamp man cos he sees nothing until the fox is down.

I have looked through a few thermals at this stage and they are a fantastic bit of kit.The nitesite is limited in its usefulness when a fox is in heavy cover over 500 yards away where as the thermal would have no issue,however I think the nitesite spotter is more useful to me when scanning in a field full of sheep etc cos you can clearly see the fox in very high detail and know its a fox

That's exactly what I've been looking at. They seem to have good reviews as well as the Ward WT 37. Not much info on thermal in Ire. Have you got this unit??

Over 3 grand ? You'd buy a decent Fox gun and proper lamping gear out of that and a second hand jeep for the fields out of 3 grand

yep,but some like this,and others prefer that.
Its all about how deep you go into your pocket.:D

Cigs were costing me over 4K a year, so gave them up to buy something like this and hopefully this won't kill me.

Has anyone got a Pulsar quantum hd38s or ward WT 37. Would like to hear their opinion on them.

I dont have a pulsar hd38s,but i would say its lightyears ahead of the ward.
I have seen trough both,and the Pulsar is a class of its own.
And that why its more expensive.
If you look for cheaper versions,pulsar challenger,Atn x sight are recommended.

The Germans are substantially more expensive than the UK even with the Euro they are slapping it on by up to 75% in some cases with NV and Thermal.
The UK wont sell some models to anyone outside the UK mainland scott country and uttings being two of them for some reason.Cant remember which one but add an ROI address and they come with a NFS outside the UK box on your shopping cart.
