Few times in the last month my megane wants to speed up I hit the break it corrects itself. Though maybe peddle might be caught in the matt dosent seem to be. Today it happened put it into nuetral and it reved up and red stop light appeared and screen said engine fault. Turned kt off and started again drove home perfect. Do they drive by wire and is it possible a fault whit the switch I have experiance of similar behaviour in a transit van . Thanks for advice.

I believe that model uses a throttle potentiometer on the pedal and there seems to be a number of issues surrounding this. From what I know generally replacing the pedal can solve it (I think it all comes as one part), though it may require any faults to be cleared from the memory too.

If you look at some of the owner's forums this seems to be quiet a common problem, so a bit of research there might save you some time and money in finding a solution.

Are you 100% its not catching in the mat? The mothers did that a few times , It was only when I had a proper root and realised the mat wasnt clipped in to the pins on the floor and was moving around.

Sounds like a scratchy potentiometer. When they get dust or oxidation inside (on the rotating surface that causes the resistance to go up or down when you're pressing the pedal) they tend to start jumpy and may produce random results.

However I don't think it would throw an engine fault so I'd be leaning towards the electric throttle body. A diagnostic scan would tell you for sure.
