It's not available in Ireland due to restrictions. There may be ways to get around this. Google is your friend.

Even using a VPN (IP Vanish) connected to a UK server, I'm still being geoblocked out of the iPlayer. Both on mobile and firestick. Any tips on how to get around this?

I watch bbc/itv player all the time with VPN. Not sure why it wouldn’t work for you.

I used VPN Unlimited a few days ago without issue but now the BBC Player is no longer working with it

So I use it frequently with a vpn on my phone and tablet. Is there any way to download bbc player app on to a smart android tv? I have the same vpn app on the TV but to watch bbc player the only way I have found is to go to the TVs own web browser and watch from BBC website, a bit cumbersome (and i can't cast iPhone to the tv). Anyone know?

You should use a SmartDNS service over VPN, much more reliable.

What brand TV? Usually a case of just switching the TV region to UK, and you'll get the stock UK TV apps installed.

Sony Bravia, oh that would be great. Has anyone tried this. I thought it picks your region up by the google play store?

Also Smart DNS, what's this? Is it completely separate to a vpn.

    It might be this?
    Ad·www.smartdnsproxy.com/
Smart DNS Proxy Service | Unblock US/UK TV Shows Today

    I just googled it.
I just watch bbc live on easy view website
Works fine no proxy needed I use chrome or Firefox
Easyview c4 itv c5 bbc most UK TV channels free
    Easyview.eu
Works on phone tablet or pc

If you change your region on your TV, it should make the stock UK apps appear (which come pre-installed) and then you should be able to update as per normal.
Not necessarily. On my Sony Android TV, the various catchup services are only available through the YouView app which will only work if you have tuned in the relevant UK channels via the antenna input. You can sideload the apps but they don't appear in Sony's launcher. There are apps that claim to add sideloaded apps into the launcher but none of them work in my case.

Do you not get dedicated apps via the Sony Android TV's? That's annoying, what's the point of putting Android TV on them then?
Not on mine anyway. Maybe there are models without this Youview thing that do, I don't know.

The apps are there, you can find them if you delve into the Android app settings, but they don't appear to want to open by themselves. If you click on them nothing happens. I tried selecting UK in the initial setup but no difference.

The only way I can access these things is by accessing them through the inbuilt web browser which isn't ideal.

Will try change the TV location to U.K. and see what appears.

On this YouView app, I only bought this Sony Android TV this week and there is no YouView app on it. Was that pre installed on yours?

It's actually called Live TV & Catch Up, but it's YouView really. When you fire it up it displays the YouView logo briefly.

If you start it, it complains about the TV signal bring too weak, and then displays a screen where you can see the apps but clicking on them does nothing.
