Audi A6 Avant (S Line)

    Hi everyone-

I'm in the process of purchasing a 2010 model A6 Avant S Line (sports seats/suspension, 18" alloys, bluetooth module, GPS etc etc.
Its the 6 speed manual- and front wheel drive not the Quatro.

Its a 2.0 TDi- so obviously its caught up in the whole VAG emissions scandal.

Basically- I've never owned or driven an Audi before in my life- my previous car is an 03 Volvo Estate- and there are some aspects of driving the Audi which from my few test drives have scared me (the lack of a hand-brake for starters- but the console and a whole lot of other factors- including the lack of user repairability (I asked about changing a light bulb- I'm colour blind and one of the off-white colours suits me better for driving in the dark- and was told- "You don't want to do that- you'll have to take off the air filters just to change the light bulbs").

I am buying the car- its a beautiful car- however, I'd be grateful for other people's experiences, including things I should look out for.

There are 80k miles on the clock, the belts have just been done (in the last year)- and it has a good main dealer service record.

A few people I mentioned the car too- kept saying things along the lines of- maintenance is going to cost you a fortune- however, no-one elaborated.

As its an 10- it has its NCT coming up imminently- which will doubtless give a better indication of any upcoming maintenance on the horizon.

Btw- I'm buying this from a family member who is emigrating- not a stranger- they're getting a reasonable price more so than a brilliant price- and I'm getting to replace my Volvo which is driving well, but I've a few kids and we've outgrown it- the cavernous boot of the A6 (alongside the remarkable interior and all specs the S-Line has) mean its a car we are probably going to grow up with for a number of years.

The car has been used predominantly for school runs- however, its been getting one good round trip of approx 180 miles each week- and its annual mileage is in or around 16k miles.

What am I likely to encounter- given its been well maintained thus far- I'd like an idea of what is likely to pop out of the woodwork at me...........

First off- I intend to update the Sat Nav DVD- which I've been told is regularly issuing warnings about roads that didn't exist in 2009......... Any to-do list that anyone might suggest?

Thanks everyone- sorry for the rather fundamental questions.

This is the car btw- http://www.adverts.ie/9191866

    Thanks everyone.

That shape A6 is generally an excellent car. They are well built, comfortable, refined, economical and reliable. Parts are cheap and readily available and they are not difficult to work on. Most half decent garages will be familiar with them and will have the necessary diagnostic gear to deal with any issues you may experience.

Buying at 80k miles you could be looking at replacing the clutch and flywheel at some stage in your ownership. They generally last quite well in the A6 though and they aren't all that expensive to replace compared to other cars. For example a 2010 Mondeo or Avensis DMF replacement will cost you more than a 2010 A6.

If you go to an Audi dealer for service and repair work then regular maintenance will be very expensive. But taking a 6 year old car to a main dealer is never a good plan regardless of make IMO.

How's the Multitronic with those? Any particular years to avoid?
