Rubber plug missing from underside of car, carpet soaked

LOng story but hopefully i can cut it down a bit.
i clean the inside of my car on a weekly basis, but a few weeks ago noticed the the inside windscreen was always wet (not fog) every morning and it began to really smell of damp. only the other day I noticed that the passenger side carpet was soaking wet and it had gone into the rear passenger side carpet.
so i pulled up the carpet and noticed there was a hole where there should be a rubber plug/stopper thing. it had fallen out and the water had been coming in through the hole for ages. i found the plug and put it back in yesterday, using a hammer to make sure it was in enough. i dried out the floor as best i could and this morning it was still dry. but i drove to shop today and even though the plug is still in place, the carpet and floor was soaked again, so im assuming the plug is perished or something?

is this easily fixable? can i get new ones? should i take up the entire carpet (would have to take out seat) and do the job right?

It's probably the heater radiator in your car leaking, or else the vent under the windscreen clogged up with leaves and sh1te. Check your coolant level and see if it's low. If it is, it's the heater rad. If the coolant is ok, it's a blocked drain at the windscreen. What car is it?

It just depends where it's coming in. The tunnel along the centre of the car would prevent the other side from getting wet.

The worst case scenario is a leaking heater radiator, which is like a mini version of the radiator at the front of the car. Usually, it takes a bit of work to extract them from behind the dash.

However there's a good chance it's a blocked drain which along with the heavy rain would cause the same symptoms.

As I said, check the coolant level tomorrow and that will give you a much better idea.

How long have you got the car ?? Is it possible the last owner took the plug out to drain the water ??

Thats where my thoughts went as soon as I read the title.

OP doesnt say anything about having to top up coolant so I'd assume the heater matrix is ok.

Drains blocked likely. Missing hole plug would not lead to that.
