    Hi there,

I am wondering would the welfare office allow me to do an unpaid summer internship. Im currently on BTEA but obviously switch over to jobseekers during the summer. Could I do it and still get my JA?

    Thanks

In a nutshell...no. But if you could get it included as unpaid work placement for your course and get a letter from you course provider then it may be possible.

Thanks for reply. That is what I was thinking. The internships I would be looking at would be all in political offices so I dont think I could get away with staying on the dole.

Have you any experience/heard of people doing that?

The internship would have to be through jobbridge..if you qualified. The other alternative would be to have it included as unpaid workplacement and you would remain on BTEA for the summer.

I looked at the website and it states that BTEA can continue for summer if the placement is an "integral" part of the course. Also states you must get a letter stating this from the "Registrars’ Office/Admissions Office or Student Records Office".

Reckon it is possible that they would give the letter or would the bureaucracy of the colleges not allow it?

You would have to talk to your college.
