I'm looking at hatchbacks from 2008 at the moment with a 7000 euro budget. I personally like the look of the Civic, I like the new style. What do you guys recommend? The Golf is a safe bet but paying a bit of a premium and is a little boring to me. Focus I'd assume is bulletproof if again a little bland. I actually think the Astra is quite nice!!

    Any opinions?

    +1 for the Civic. I've a 1.8L 2009 model and it's a solid car.
Wouldn't touch an Opel if you paid me.

Don't think you'll get a decent 08+ civic with your budget unless it's a saloon.

I coukd probably stretch it a little if I see a nice one, or go for an 07 if they are still the newer model.

Newer model is very late 05 onwards.
1.8 is worth getting over 1.4.

The 8h gen 1.8 is the same tax (€390) as the previous gen 1.4 if you get an 08+ model.

This is true, but they're very rare in 1.8 post 08 and those that you can get are quite expensive.

    Mazda3 1.6 Petrol.

Reliable, extremely enjoyable to drive (to the point when you change your driving style and it gets a bit thirsty) while very nice inside.
