Jobbridge ending

I took a jobbridge as an assistant. But it was a fancy name as a cleaner. Assisting the people with the same qualifications as me. Cleaning was always part of the job once qualified but the assistant took away most of their cleaning leaving them with other duties. Other duties I was also qualified to do.

I saw it coming three months ago. I wasn't going to get anything more from them.

I have two weeks left, fully qualified and i don't see them training me in on their computer systems, taking payments and a million other things i could have done.

That was never part of the jobbridge description but they had someone fully qualified, at their disposal for eight and a half months, if they wanted to hire someone, they could have done more while they had a free slave. I don't see them giving me a job out of this.

Why i took a jobbridge as a glorified cleaner, it was so long finishing college, not getting work. It was my foot in the door again.

What do i do? I have sent off applications and heard nothing back. Its soul destroying. To be back on the unemployment heap with very little experience for my nine months done.

I need work and I don't know where to start. I need to get off the social welfare. I would do anything but I don't know where to start. I have no retail experience, would shops even take me. I have no office or reception experience.

Before college, i spent six years in a factory. In my teenage years, it was all cafe and hotel work. I know people who are managing hotel departments, what do i do, go back and start at the bottom.

What do i have to do, where do i start.

You should report your host organisation to the social welfare department so that they can't do that to someone else again. I was exploited in my internship as well where I was doing nothing but posting letters and cleaning the floor.

It doesn't look like they abused OP. Just that the Internship didn't live up to their expectations. They should have left long before now and taken another. They can only do 9 more months. Hopefully they'll get a job soon and the JobBridge experience may stand to them, in that they can show that they are willing and able to work.

    And break my back too.

I only stuck it out because I need work, it was in a good organisation. And it could have been my foot in the door if something came up.

There was another cleaner that started with me, not qualified, even she had more balls to leave.

The person before me, i was told their jobbridge ended because they were out sick too often. So to end their jobbridge, they had to be sick for 10 days.

While myself stuck it out in the hope of getting something. Or more experience.

I went through something similar to u. Done job bridge no job from it after 9 months. Done second one for two months couldn't stick it so I left. Then did another job bridge for six months and finally I got a real job. I know how you feel its horrible. Maybe u might consider doing another job bridge. You can do up to a maximum of three but time spent on job bridge cannot be more then 18 months. It worked for me it might work for you. I know the money is not good but if you keep trying and work hard something might come out if it if you did another one if you can afford to. Best of luck.

    To get experience, I would.

Two places were recently recruiting and I sent in my application. It was ignored.

Then, when i contacted places last year, most of them weren't interested. I did get an interview in a lovely place but they told me how it was. It was a small place, the place can get overcrowded, and they do have students also. There wasn't any space for me. And alot of places are like this. I'm only taking up space.

Then there's travel. How far do I go? I'm lucky im in a city and can use my legs.

But the extra 50 isn't much if i have to take transport into account. I saw a jobbridge last year in a small town, but no house shares and it was €60 a week for the bus fare to and from the nearest city. All the while you have rent, bills and food.

    In my experience, jobbridge=abuse.

I had originally contacted the organisation asking them for the possibility of experience under the scheme. They had a jobbridge but as a cleaner, it was a take it or leave it. It was so long since i finished college, i needed something and it was in a place that i want to work. They could have easily created a jobbridge that gave real experience including cleaning because once qualified there is cleaning as part of the job. But it was created to lessen the load on their own workers.

Clearly, the word jobbridge, i was only asking for it.

What are the chances of being kept on and employed to use my qualification, after eight and a half months. Considering i didn't get any real experience/training. Its not hardly going to happen in two weeks, is it?

I read a comment before it was quickly deleted for some reason.

Even if i wasn't qualified and took the jobbridge, it was a cleaning internship. Others on the scheme left. They realised it was abuse.

But me, I was in an organisation that could offer potential employment, or even real experience but i wasn't going to report them to jobbridge if they wanted to give me more duties/responsibility/experience since it would have went against the terms of jobbridge.

I have spent 9 months here, and if anything was to come up in the future, look how useless I am, when they couldn't even offer real training.

When their own staff were too busy and telling customers they won't be long coming out, I had one person tell me it was only something small, could I take for it. I told them I was on work experience. I probably should have said jobbridge. Don't know why I would want to save them.

Thats how a jobbridge should be, experience in everything.

The next interview, what computer program have you experience in?
    9 months, and nothing.

It's soul destroying, I know it's easy say but keep strong and hopefully this scam scheme will be done away with soon.

I'm confused. Were you taken on for a cleaning jobsbridge internship?

It was an assistant helping out the people with the same qualifications as i had. But it was essentially a glorified cleaner. Assisting them i.e. lessen their workload so that they carry on with other things.

Not much wiser to be honest. Were you taken on to be a cleaner?

What were you reasonably expecting (not hoping) to get trained in from the job spec?

Also, what are your IT skills, programmer?

Did you approach them, or was the position advertised?

As in any job, if you lay down, you will be walked over. Stand up for yourself and your qualifications.

I approached them, and they had a jobbridge going.

Should have stood up but out of desperation. I couldn't even get a jobbridge position. But then i was offered this. It was something.

I don't know what to do in two weeks time. Nothing is going to come from it.

Put it behind you and move on. Haunt TUS and other employment agencies, as well as searching for yourself until you get something.

Approaching a company, who then create a JobBridge position just for you should have had alarm bells ringing from the start.

Best of Luck. May 2016 be the year you get the perfect job.

OP, since you started the Jobsbridge, how many other jobs have you applied for?

You mentioned two, but that your application was ignored. But where there others? You should have been applying for real jobs from the days your Jobsbridge started.

What you need to do - now and in two weeks time - is to keep on applying to places. Yes, it sucks. But thats the way it is: there are no magic solutions, you just have to keep trying.

Recently applied for two. But there was more.

I don't know know where to start anymore. Feel like such a failure with no confidence. I allow them to walk over me in any small bit of hope. Because i couldn't get work.

You're providing very little information apart from that you are despairing - very hard not to give only general don't give up advice.

I think OP you need to be far more proactive yourself rather than sitting there and accepting your lot. I understood you stayed there for almost the 9 months as the "glorified cleaner" yet said nothing or approached anyone? Or apply for other real paying jobs in the meantime?

You should start a list of every job you apply for - the company, the role, the date etc. How else will you remember to follow up if you don't have this?

Also, look at volunteercentre.ie or similar if you cannot get paid work and have to go back on the dole - at least some voluntary work would give you something to do.
