    HI

I have been looking to purchase a new TV.

Originally went out with a budget of about €600.00

Went to electrical shop and shown an all singing and dancing SONY BRAVIA KD49X8309CBU Smart Ultra HD 4k 49" LED TV.

I was really impressed with picture and technology that it offered and the guy said that we would NOT NEED any other TV subscription / Sky/Eir TV etc. we would be able to get all the sports, movie, box sets etc with this TV. Oh and is €999.99

Does anyone have any experience of these. I have not purchased a TV for 10 years so want to make a good decision.

    Thanks in advance

The new sony range you are taking about have a variation of the android operating system on it and also have a saorview and a satellite tuner built in that can be connected to a sat dish to receive all the various fta channels available.

You can also download apps such as Kodi directly from the app store which can be modified to open free sources to movies etc but this is not allowed to be discussed here...google is your friend on that one

if you have an android based phone you can also use it to sideload apps not available in the play store this means you download onto your phone first and then transfer it across to the tv, once its across it will stay on it. You can use an app called sideloader available via the play store to show this on the menu bar on the tv..

Also a great free app for the android tvs available via the play store is called pluto, this gives you access to 100 free channels some are merely links to youtube sources but you can check it out more at there website http://pluto.tv

Picture quality on this set is sublime and sound is one of the best I've heard on a flat screen tv on the market in some time....all in all its a tv I would recommend.

You say the tv is priced at €1000 there are two versions available one is 200mhz and the other is 800mhz think the dearer version is approx €150 more expensive side by side you can see the refresh rate clearly..

Thanks so much for the very detailed and informative reply. Based on your reply anpd knowledge Steveon do you think the price is ok? Or would o be as well off purchasing a cheaper TV and getting an android box?

    Thanks again

There should be a 5 year warranty with those Sony's too, unless it's Currys.

No smallest range I have seen in 2016 models are 43" wouldnt be viable for any manufacturer to make sets that small with Android operating system on them.

I'm going to close this thread, largely because discussion of actual televisions is off topic for this forum (belongs in Video Displays and Projectors), but the reason I'm not going to just move the thread is, had the thread been on topic, I'd have been required to give a warning not to discuss the element of the OP referring to accessing sports and movies without subscription.
