Claiming Medical Expenses Online

Was hoping I could get some help which would be greatly appreciated.

Basically, I've never claimed medical expenses before because they were so minimal each year. However, last year my son needed grommets and we had a few other expenses that I wish to claim for.

I've looked at my PAYE anytime and I can't see where I complete an online MED1. I have a rental property and complete a Form 12 for it each year so do I include the medical expenses on it?

Also, if it is a separate form, can I go ahead and claim the medical expenses now or do I have to wait until after the Form 12 is submitted?

Thanks for any help in advance.

    Hi Lemlin

If you login to PAYE Anytime and click on 2015, then click “Claim Health Expenses Tax Credit for 2015” you will be able to put the details in there. Just put the amounts that you paid in whatever category applies to you. When you are finished go to “add to requests”. Finally go back to the overview screen and click “submit all changes”.

You don't have to wait until the Form 12 is submitted as health expenses can be claimed separately but you would have to wait until Revenue have your pay & tax details for 2015. When you get your P60 from your employer you can either post it to Revenue or input the details yourself on PAYE Anytime. You can do this after you have requested a P21 Balancing Statement it will prompt you to enter your pay & tax details for the year.

AFAIK, the Case V income , the rental income, that the OP has, if more than 3.170 pa or similar, precludes him from using PAYE online for his tax returns: The Case V make you liable to full self assessment, with all that that entails. PAYE online is not self assessment so u must use the Form 12 for the medical expenses claim

The interest on the mortgage is fairly high so I usually make a loss on the rental property after it and other expenses like house insurance.

I entered the medical expenses online on Friday. Will complete the Form 12 in February when I get docs from my employer. Usually don't get them until around Valentine's Day.

Can you still claim for bin charges or was that abolished?
