Eir vs UPC for live sports

I understand Eir uses IPTV, does this mean watching live sports will be a few seconds/large amount of seconds behind UPC or sky users?

It would be annoying hearing neighbours cheer for a goal before you see it or getting a text from a friend before you see it.

Cable is IP until the last mile when it's converted to RF. The difference would be fractions of a second up to perhaps 3 seconds but as to which one is ahead I've not seen them side by side.

Virginmedia is 4 seconds approx behind Sky - don't know the delay for Eir

VM Digital SD compared to Sky SD - Sky Sports channels , l have noted a 7 second delay on VM vs Sky but channels vary and SD vs HD versions also vary.

I think that's the definition of a first world problem right there! :D

(But yes you are right, there is a few seconds delay between my Saorview box and my Eir box).
