    Hi guys.

Looking for some info. Booked car in for service and to check back brakes. Came back this morning to say that back brake pads had been gone so it did damage to discs which need to be replaced and as part of this need to replace a wheel bearing.

Said it is going to be 300 for the pads discs and bearing and another 180 for the service.

Does this sound right or expensive. It's a local Indy and not main dealer.

    Thanks

i know on previous models rear brake discs come included with bearing and are expensive,i found out later trying to fit bearings into rear discs that bearings are too small so hence why all in one unit replacement needed.2 rear discs.bearings and rear pads.
180 for a service on a renault is very cheap what is he changing and quality of oil been used.i would be using something like mobil esp at 15 a litre.

Thanks for response. Have to suckling it up so. First time getting this car serviced so had been surprised nd thought 180 was a lot. Getting full service so presume all filters nd whatever else shud b done. He always does other family car nd no complaints do presume it's good quality oil

How is it cheap "for a Renault"? Filters and oil for a Renault are no dearer than anything else.

If you look at GSFcarparts a pair of rear brake discs with bearings installed costs 256 euro with rear pads costing about 30 euro. So 300 for rear discs, pads and bearings sounds like a good price.

However you said "a wheel bearing". this sound like either there is a misunderstanding or the garage can get discs and bearings separately and is going to try to reuse one of the existing bearings. I'd prefer to see them using discs with the bearings already installed i.e. two new discs and two new bearings.

I went ahead with it afterwards and have car back. Service of 180 covered air filter at 15,oil filter at 10 and fuel filter at 55,oil for 40 and 60 for labour.

Then had brake pads at 80 and rear discs including the bearings at 220 so all in 480 euro

These are the prices on the invoice so they may have put random prices to balance overall judging on what Brian said about the costs of pads and discs

    Thanks for replies

I just explained it badly. They used discs with bearings already installed

does it say grade of oil used as people can put inferior oil into engine and could be much cheaper than the correct one 60-90 euro?.

It just says fully synthetic but nothing else on the invoice

yes it would be fully synthetic, must be a very small capacity engine as some take 5ltrs+

It's down for taking 5 lots in invoice which is recommended amount from what I can see

Assuming it's a euro 5 1.5dci engine then the oil spec is RN0720 which from what I can see the only brands that sell it are Fuchs or Elf in 5w30 and it's not cheap. I think the euro 4 2010 backwards 1.5dci with no dpf wasn't as fussy and only required RN0700.
