    Hi Guys,
Merry xmas and Happy new year to all on Boards, Quick question, I have a 6hr stop over in HK Airport in June - Am I able to head out to a local hotel for a meal and waste some time with out taking all baggage as we have a connecting flight to Cairns. Is this much of a hassle given i have 2 kids in tow?

    Thanks in advance

You should be able to check your bags through to Cairns but the right people to ask are your airline.

Why not take a spin into HK city?

I was there last month and it's 20 mins on the train

It's been a while but I think HK tourism have special trips out of the airport for people on stopovers.

Assuming you are on a single passenger itinerary with a single ticket number, absolutely no reason why you should have anything to do with your bags until you see them in Cairns. This sort of timing is very doable even with kids in Hong Kong. Sometimes, immigration can be busy but rarely more than 30 minutes so simply purchase same day return Airport Express tickets and head straight for Hong Kong station which is in "Central", the main business and high end shopping district on Hong Kong Island. The train runs at a decent high speed from Chep Lap Kok across Lantau and many other islands then New Territories/Kowloon before going under the harbour and onto the island.

You'll see the new towns of 30 or so buildings each 40 stories tall surrounded by lush green vegetation as well as the big city scape. HK is mostly 70% unbuilt green forest/ vegetation due to the hills.

The Airport Express arrives in a big shopping and business mall which may be handy if it's rainy or if you want to destress/grab refreshments. Walk out of the mall, take the tram through Wan Chai (old red light district) to Causeway Bay where you will be in a mass of locals going about their business.

Later, head back to Central and take the Star Ferry across the harbour (pennies, literally) to Tsin Sha Tsui (TST) on Kowloon side. Walk up Nathan Road, stop in at the Peninsula to see the grand colonial hotel. Pass by Chungking Mansions, go to the Ladies Market. Then when you're worn out, take the Airport Express back from Kowloon Station having seen most of what Hong Kong has to offer.

    Brilliant Guys, Many Thanks
Will look into taking the Airport Express into HKC or Kowloon and just kill some hours on a walk around the shops and a bite to eat. Then head back in plenty of time for the connecting flight.

Little nervous of cocking it up and missing the flight to Cairns but will leave plenty of time.
