Constant Internet Drops on Virgin

Basically I'll be on my laptop with everything working fine, getting roughly 15mb download and 20 upload on a wireless connection, and the internet will just drop, constantly.

This happens very regularly like practically every 5 or 10 minutes. All it takes is to disconnect from the network and connect again and it's back working perfectly, until the next drop that is. Extremely frustrating and I can't pinpoint the issue.

Any ideas as to what may be wrong? This is an issue across 3 different laptops, a Playstation and various mobile phones, so it can't be that.

    Appreciate any advice, thanks.

Assume you are talking about wireless only connections? Use a WiFi analyser app to examine channel number and signal strength. Try changing the channel number and maybe reposition the router for better signal distribution. Test with a wired connection to the router to rule out actual connection dropouts to VM.

    Hi Christy
I have the exact same problem here. I got on to Web chat with VM and they said it is probably to do with other interference in the area . I told them it never happened when I was with eircom. The guy switched me to channel 6 to see if it's still the same and to change the playstation to a static ip. Guess what, it's still happening.
I was reading also its a common problem with the router "technIcolor " make I'm only with them 3 months and have had solid BB for about 2 weeks of that. Starting to think of going back to Europe as it's a pain being kicked out all the time.

Read this post, it should go a long way to fixing issues:

Thanks for the reply, yes I am talking purely about wireless connections, as far as I can tell wired connections work fine. I do have a dodgy box with a wired connection to my router, could that be interfering with the Wi-fi?

Depending on what router you have, my best advice is to ' bridge' the VM router and use your own router to connect to. Plenty of discussions around here on this topic.
