    An interesting one

Incident: Alaska B739 at Seattle on Dec 19th 2015, landed on taxiwayBy Simon Hradecky, created Tuesday, Dec 29th 2015 22:40Z, last updated Tuesday, Dec 29th 2015 22:40Z

An Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-900, registrationN477AS performing flight AS-27 from Chicago O'Hare,IL to Seattle,WA (USA), was on an ILS approach to runway 16R cleared to land on runway 16R, when tower offered a visual swing over to runway 16C, the crew opted to accept runway 16C but aligned with taxiway T in between runways 16R and 16C and continued for a safe landing on taxiway T at 08:31L (16:31Z), no other traffic was on taxiway T at that time. Tower, maintaining routine communication, cleared the aircraft to cross runway 16L, the crew read that clearance back after a slight hesitation and maintained routine communication, too.

Alaska Airlines confirmed their flight AS-27 landed on taxiway T on Dec 19th 2015, the occurrence is under investigation, further details can not be told due to the pending investigation.

The FAA reported, the occurrence is being investigated by the FAA.

Happened in Gatwick a few years ago. I think gatwick can have landing on the taxiway when the main runway is closed.

It happens quite a lot, but its not as embarrassing as landing in the wrong airport!

Landed on 16L in Seattle a few days ago. A dirty, wet, grey afternoon. It could be very easy to make that mistake.

Just happened to open AvHerald and saw this......
An Easyjet Airbus A319-100, registration G-EZBY performing flight U2-1847 from Manchester,EN (UK) to Pisa (Italy), was cleared to land on Pisa's active runway 04L but touched down on closed runway 04R at 11:11L (10:11Z). The aircraft rolled out without further incident and taxied to the apron.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Pisa 4.5 hours after landing and about 4 hours after the scheduled departure of the return flight U2-1848.

I'm a regular in Kells! Not a bad pint of Guinness. Few of those then a bite to eat in the Mexican next door.

Never go to Australia. Don't bid for it, and if I get one, I'll swap it.
Flying East is much tougher for jetlag, and I really just don't like the place!

Gatwicks taxiway is basically a runway, so they can get away with it!

(They can't use both 'runways' as they are too close together)

Isn't the runway a lot wider than the taxiway? Like, wouldn't it be obvious that it's not the runway?

There's not a lot of difference actually.

But do you know what I'm getting at, I get there is not a lot of difference, but surely that only applies to the untrained eye?

Easyjet landed on the wrong runway in Pisa today, a closed one at that.

In Pisa 04R is the main runway and 04L is narrower and, I think, more often used as a taxiway. Pisa is the Italian AF's principal transport base, so the availability of a parallel taxiway as a reserve runway is possibly a military requirement to ensure that the base can less easily be put out of action.

I'd say on a durty wet dark dank day those tyre marks would blend in with a wet runway.
