2002 santa fe 2.0petrol altenator

    Guys just wondering can anyone give me a rough idea how much it costs to get an altenator refurbished, think it maybe gone and just want a rough idea so i don't get ripped buying a new one or something, i'm trading in the car in January so looking for a quick fix, thanks.

    It depends whats gone in the alternator. If the windings are gone for example then a new one will be the only option. The repair shop are the only people who can answer that question but perhaps a second hand one would better suit your needs?

    As above it depends on what the fault is. Worn axial bearings (would have been nosy prior to failure) a faulty regualator, shorted windings, worn brush set all these old cause an otherwise perfect alterbator to fail. The last one i replaced had a burnt out regulator and the refurbishment cost E80.

    Windings would be unusual to see failing. I'd say the most common failures would be the regulator or brushes, neither of which are too expensive.

    If itwas bearings, you'd know about it, it would be grinding.
