Do I need to sign off the dole for a holiday?

Have been on the dole for 3 months so im not fully aware of the exact rules on this. Basically I got lucky at the bookies over the weekend and won about 2,000 euro. This is enough to go to Asia for a couple of months so I was thinking of going for 8 weeks.

What is the procedure here though? Do I need to sign off the dole? Will I be asked for proof of my winnings from the bookie? Will I need to re-apply for the dole when im back?

    This'll go well.

Why the sarcasm? I'm entitled to go on a holiday I just don't know if I need to sign-off or not. I'm not expecting payment while on holiday, I simply don't know the procedure.

    Just do it online.

    https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/secure/HolidayApplication.aspx

You can only go 2 weeks, so you'll have to go down probably and sign off

Yes you will have to if you are gone that long. Usually those that are long term unemployed can apply to have a 2 week holiday and still get paid.

You can notify the Department of your intention to take a holiday. You must give a minimum of 10 days notice and you cannot apply more than 21 days in advance.

You are allowed two weeks holidays in each calendar year (twelve days not including Sundays)

Any longer than this and I believe you have to close your claim and reapply once you are back actively seeking employment.

The application form can be found Here

    Thanks everyone.

I wasn't expecting payment or anything I was just hoping they could "freeze" my claim or something so that I won't have to go through the same rigmarole when I get back of applying and giving proof of bank statements etc etc. Who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and find work while applying on holidays.

The holiday allocation is for 2 weeks per year. To apply for that you fill in a holiday form, it has to be filled in a minimum of 10 days before you leave, you receive a payment and you dont have to sign off. If you're talking about a couple of months you'll most likely have to sign off, I've heard of them leaving you signed on if you've a good reason for going abroad, but in this case it's unlikely. Your best bet is to ask them directly though.

2,000 might be enough for a couple of weeks in Asia but what about spending money etc? Surely 2k is not enough for that long...

If you are going longer than a month then your claim will be closed and you wont get your 2 weeks holiday. You will have to make a repeat claim on your return.
