Missed payment of Fixed Charge Notice

A summons will now be automatically sent to my address and I will be given the chance to outline my case in court. Since I've never had anything like this happen before or even appeared in court before, can anyone in the know tell me what to expect?

It's a €40 fine. I mixed up the deadline for making the payment. Today is the deadline but I can't pay it because all post offices are closed. There is a phone number for paying by telephone but those offices are closed too.

What is the worst that could happen when I get summoned?

Post offices and most offices are open today. It's a normal working day

Not exactly, it is a "Bank Holiday" today, but not a "Public Holiday (just like Good Friday) so a "normal working day" but Banks (and Post Offices) are closed today, and will reopen tomorrow..

See the AN Post for details.

It's not any kind of holiday day. It's a normal working day. An post are not doing their postal service but that doesn't mean you can't pay your fpn in the post office.

Interesting to see what the legislation says about the last day of the notice period being a pubic holiday of some description that does not allow access to the Post Office.

I would just pay it tomorrow and get a receipt

    This might help

I have lost my notice but wish to pay, what can I do?
    • If the notice is for an offence that does not have penalty points then you can contact the Fixed Charge Processing Office by calling 1890 30 40 60 or by e-mail to npo@garda.ie. You will be given a reference number and transaction code which you can use to pay the fine in the usual manner.

    • If the notice is for an offence that does have penalty points you need to have a copy of the notice in order to make payment. You can contact the Fixed Charge Processing Office by calling 1890 30 40 60 or by e-mailto npo@garda.ie and a copy of the notice will be sent to you by post. Please note that the original timeframes for payment still stand. It can take up to 5 working days to receive a re-print. You should give the operator your vehicle registration number when you call.

Being a €40 fine I'm gonna guess it's not a Gardai fine. If it's a council fine they might be ok with you paying a day or 2 late. It'll save them having to bring you to court.

I rang them and they couldn't have cared less. No big surprise there. They did suggest I email npo@garda.ie, which I did, but I'm not expecting much out of that either. Guess I'll be going to court and wasting everyone's time...

Sure it'll be an experience anyway :)
