Audi A6: suddenly lots of electric problems

    Hi,

Hoping someone can provide some advice here.

Car is a 2009 A6. No problems with it to date, but on Sunday the ABS, ESP/ traction, parking brake and headlight range finder lights all lit up at the same time as I was driving.

They've remained lit and parking brake, lights etc are all not working.

The way this happened I'm thinking it must be a control unit that manages these parts.

Any ideas on what is causing this and best way to fix it?

    Thanks,

It needs diagnostics from someone with proper VAG equipment.

Check your battery, could be low. I know with my 5 Series if the battery is low it can cause havoc with the various electrical systems.

Could be just a sensor problem too :)

I was warned not to go to Audi with this. Should an independent be able to cover it do you think?

Suspect coils can also cause the "Christmas Tree" effect on the dashboard.

Why wouldn't you go to Audi for a diagnostic on an Audi? Have you modified the car?

If they have proper VAG equipment then there's no reason an independent couldn't do a diagnostic.

No the car isnt modified but my experience is that they go to town and use the opportunity when you walk in the door to upsell. They're very sales focused, whereas the focus of the local guy I used previously with my Passat was to get it fixed at minimal cost.

Also I've been told that any problems are documented and go on the record of the car and the first thing another dealer will do is contact Audi to find out if this one has been problematic.

Maybe because an Audi maindealer would charge an arm and a leg for it?
A good indie will be just as competent for half the price.

Get someone with vcds to scan it for you, could be something simple that you could fix yourself.

If you're in Dublin I could do it.
