Golfing Malaga/Marbella

Looking like I'll be going over again this year in Feb.

Went last year and played three times (Alcadesia Links,Heathland and Santa something). I booked through teetimes and paid between 60-100 each.

I'd like to do it a bit better this year as I just went with whatever was close (staying about 1km from Valderrama Course )

Is there somewhere I can book a few rounds together and get them cheaper?

Missed my clubs last year, how much will it cost me to bring mine over in a carry bag? Safe?

    Thanks

Went down there 4 years in a row and used www.golf-services.com they have a list of the courses in the area and picked off that. Some of the courses include a buggy from time to time so keep a eye out for that, lots of the courses you really need a buggy.
Always brought our own clubs no problem.

€60 return for checking in golf bag with Aer Lingus and Ryanair.

There is a Paul Mc Ginley club rental in Malaga airport, just as you exit the luggage collection area. If you are travelling with your own clubs make sure to have them well packed and protected.

    Don't wait until you arrive!
Select and book your clubs online before you travel.

It was €40 each way when I travelled last summer. Has it gone down?

If you're just going for a week, clubstohire.com is the best value. You could hire a very good set for around €65 for the week whereas bringing your own (if I'm right about the cost) is a minimum of €80 plus a protective bag (starting at about €40). If there's more than one of you, you can cut the cost by packing two sets in one bag; the weight limit is 23Kg and then you're ahead of the club hire cost.

If hiring, First Up is right, select and book online before you go.

We go to Marebella each Feb, we never pick the top end courses but there are some great deals on the middle tier courses, Rio Real, nice course with good food, golf cart etc and a very reasonable price.

I always bring my own clubs, never had any issues with damage or getting lost.

Only 6 or so weeks to go, can't wait.

    Thanks for all the replies,

I rented from clubstohire last year. Found them great but really missed my own clubs, mainly my wedges and putter so keen to bring my own.

I could always see if i can get the lend of a travel case, is it a big no no to just use a carry bag?

I'd love to walk the course but more than likely I'll be joining a group so I doubt it s possible. Not only that but most course's seem to be monsters to walk. Some of the tee boxes in Alcaidesa Heathland were miles apart aswell. Up a 100ft hill ( zig zag paved), over a bridge and back down into a tunnel ( under a road I'm guessing) . Took a full 3-4 minutes flat out in the buggy

McGuirks have a travel bag for 40 that more than does the job. Legend is the make I think. Well worth buying to keep your clubs secure.

I have that very one. Brought it abroad this year with two sets of clubs and a Sunday bag, two pairs of shoes and other accoutrements and still got under the weight limit. Nothing was damaged.

If bringing with one set of clubs, make sure you stuff the bag with as much as you can in the clothing/towels department to help protect the contents. If your woods have detachable heads, take them off and stow in the pockets of your golf bag and tie the shafts together with cable ties for added strength.

It's 60 euro for off peak times and 80 in the high season

There are numerous golf societies you can tie in with - no joining fee. T
he two I use are Golf Leisure and the Orange Tree restaurant. All English speaking and plenty of Irish play there. Very sociable. Cost is about €60 for places like Santa Maria, Santa Clara and Santana.
Stapleford competitions with restaurant voucher for the winner of the Orange Tree one.
