Commercial tax on a 5 seater crew cab is possible.
    €333 per annum.

Satisfying the insurance criteria is harder than taxing the van.

Not registered for VAT but I am self employed and registered for income tax

Then you should be able to tax a crew-cab, but you have to sign a declaration in front of a Garda that it will never be used for social or domestic purposes.

If you don't have 3 employees to fill the seats, you won't qualify for €333 tax.

I've not had that issue taxing a crewcab, nor do I know anybody that did. The most I had to do was sign the form in the garda station,

They are slowly closing the net.

The commercial tax has been abused for far too long and I remember reading about it a few years ago that commercial tax was a discounted "road tax" off the standard (aka private) rate to assist commercial only use. The CoCo's are now re-enforcing this "commercial only" status for discount, so if any commercial vehicles are used for any social/domestic use, the standard rate applies.

They've been enforcing/re-enforcing it since it got the big clampdown years ago-Yet I've never had produce anything other than that letter you linked and signed at the garda station, they don't even bother reading them at the tax office,

That's the same as the old non use tax form and plenty of people lied to get the statutory declaration that they hadn't used the public road witnessed by a Garda. Until the Gardaí start enforcing compliance with private use of commercial vehicles the abuse of commercial tax will continue.

Exactly-you don't even need a VAT or tax number, company number-they will accept your PPS number in most tax offices
