So since we had Abigail on the 10th/11th of November, this is the sixth storm to hit Ireland in seven weeks. What a time to be alive!

They're not storms, they're just naming Atlantic depressions. What was a wet and windy day has become storm whatsitsname.

True, a bit over dramatic but I kinda like it all the same. It really helps to keep track of what's been happening on the weather side. Not that it's any use to me whatsoever. :)

The Met Office don't name minor storms, Met Eireann do. In this uber PC Age The Met are afraid of causing offence and undermining them so they go along with Met Eireann's bullsh1t.

True story, straight from the horse's mouth.

I don't believe you, until you tell me the name of the horse

Why can't they just name them whatever way they want and keep it to themselves? They bare no relevance to us, unless you're sucked in by and go around telling everyone that Desmond blew the washing off the line!

Who cares! Some folk just won't shut about the weather now.

I'm really getting fed up with this endless conveyor belt of rain storms. It's just miserable weather.

If this is what's on the cards with climate change, I'm going to have to consider moving.

Well storm whatsitsname back in November ripped 3 ridge tiles off my roof, one of which landed a few feet from the car. Also upended everything outside that wasnt nailed down, bins, flowerpots etc. I think if the wind speeds get to that level, it's a fair classification.

Lt. Frank Drebin: Now, Jane, what can you tell us about the man you saw last night?
    Jane Spencer: He's Caucasian.
    Ed Hocken: Caucasian?
Jane Spencer: Yeah, you know, a white guy. A moustache. About six-foot-three.
Lt. Frank Drebin: Awfully big moustache.

Lt. Frank Drebin: Hector Savage. From Detroit. Ex-boxer. His real name was Joey Chicago.
Ed Hocken: Oh, yeah. He fought under the name of Kid Minneapolis.
Nordberg: I saw Kid Minneapolis fight once. In Cincinnati.
Lt. Frank Drebin: No you're thinking of Kid New York. He fought out of Philly.
Ed Hocken: He was killed in the ring in Houston. By Tex Colorado. You know, the Arizona Assassin.
Nordberg: Yeah, from Dakota. I don't remember it was North or South.
Lt. Frank Drebin: North. South Dakota was his brother. From West Virginia.
Ed Hocken: You sure know your boxing.
Lt. Frank Drebin: All I know is never bet on the white guy.

Ok, they are not hurricanes or typhoons, but they are serious. It does depend on where in the country you are however. Was talkin to my folks on the other side of the island and its like talking about weather in a different country. On the west coast and shannon basin we are having serious trouble...trees blown over, floods, deaths and huge amount of people put out of homes due to damage (water & otherwise). There is a river running down my back yard, as run-off from fields above that just cant hold any more water. There is a good chance my driveway will be washed away. I have to park my car on a little 'island' in the yard! It will be funny in a few months, but now, I dread hearing that there is more wind & rain on the way :-(
