Can someone explain the price difference for this motor product?

When perusing the shelves in Tesco recently I noticed this :

Radweld 'Radiator Leak Repair' is 8.80

yet Radweld 'Total coolant leak repair' is 3.50

Attached is a photo of the shelf.

The cheaper product claims to do exactly what the more expensive product does plus more. The more expensive product only does one thing yet costs more. And this is for the same 250 ml bottle size.

Can someone explain this ? What am I missing ? If I have a radiator leak , why shouldnt I choose the cheaper bottle by the same company which actually fixes more problems and which can troubleshoot the whole system and fix it up instead of just the rad ?

It says it on the front of the bottle

They seem to have gotten the pricing wrong though. It should be €11-12

They're both only temporary fixes that stick a load of gunk into your rad, better off getting it repaired properly.

    What do you mean ?

Radweld 'Plus' is significantly cheaper than regular ''Radweld'' but comparing the front of both bottles, it does everything Radweld does and more. Why is this ?

The cheaper one is better, they just made a bags of pricing it, it should be 3-4 times that price.

Tesco's prices aren't based on product comparison within their own lines.

It could be any number of reasons but none of which will be what you assume.

I picked up a few bottles of wonder wheels there recently for €2 each and frequently the 750ml demon shine for similar money.

True but a bottle can be handy to get you out of a tricky situation on a long journey etc

And feck the radiator and engine in the long run.

    I'd never use it.

Tesco pricing is weird. 1 litre of own brand vegetable oil is the same price as 500ml.

This is useless at fixing radiator leaks.

If your radiator is bad and leaking and you know it, Change the radiator.
Once done the job is good.
Your cooling system is the key to your engines longevity, neglect it and you may as well budget for a new headgasket and fitting at the very least.
Its a band aid fix for doing the job properly.
Most Rads aren't that expensive new anymore, I know I can buy a brand new Corolla one for less than 60 euro.

A mate has a landcruiser that eithre has a cracked block or head which results in steam being blown out of the exhaust(clouds of white smoke)
He tells me that its not an unknown problem with the landcruisers, and this is a known fix for it, lasts about 2 years til it needs another treatment. His has nearly 400k miles done

Subaru at one stage were recommending "subaru coolant conditioner" with every coolant flush for the 2.5 engines. It's said to be radweld with a different label, bottle is the same and all.

More than likely a pricing error by staff. I would guess its supposed to be €13.50?

Example: one time butlers chocolates that were supposed to be €20 turned out to be 2 cents. The checkout staff were quick to realise this when one greedy gobsh*te arrived with a trolley full of them....

Yeah, pricing error. 8.80 for the boggo radweld in tesco extra in cork. No sign of the fancier version though.

I fixed a heater matrix in a xsara with this stuff, so I wouldn't say it's useless.

I've driven the crap out of my old car for almost 5 years now. It was already 15 years old when I picked it up. I never filled the radiator with water or coolant until last September despite driving it over 120 mh on a regular basis to Kerry, Mayo etc from Dublin. This car must have been a gem in its day. it sprung a pinhole leak after 140 kmh most of the way to Kildare [ and it happened the day after not during]. Radweld fixed it 6 months ago and its still going strong so I think its a useful thing to have. Not proud of my driving at high speeds by the way ... just saying how it was thats all. I am proud of it as a bangernomics find though. In 4 years I have doubled the mileage on it and done more than it had done in the previous 10 to 12

I just picked up two bottles of Radweld Plus from the Tesco Clearwater in Finglas and theres 2 or 3 left on the shelf for 3.80. They will come in useful at some point with my next banger
