10th January - Galway v Leitrim in the FBD League in Ballinasloe at 2pm and Galway v DCU in the Walsh Cup also fixed for Ballinasloe at 2pm!!!

They could probably do with shaking up those groups a bit again. Maybe swap Mayo with Sligo or Sligo IT with GMIT.

Roscommon v Mayo should be a good run out for both teams before the league. Roscommon won two trophies in the early months of last year but had a poor championship. They'll have to perform strongly in the league if they are to be competitive in Division 1.

Galway should come through the other side but the vibes coming from the Galway camp aren't good ahead of this season. Leitrim have had some good results in this competition in recent years so may fancy their chances of getting to the final.

Galway should come through the other side but the vibes coming from the Galway camp aren't good ahead of this season.

Any chance you could elaborate on that?

Probably more to do with Galway losing Lundy and Duane for 2016 (both gone to the US) and O'Griofa out for the year with another cruciate. 3 potential starters all gone before new years.

What's MacHale park looking like for the match on Sunday? Is it likely to go ahead given the weather?

I'd say it will. There hasn't been an awful lot of rain here the last day or 2. I'd say should be OK.

Match moved to MacHale park due to the Hyde being unplayable. Hopefully the roads will be well gritted too if we get this weather we're promised this weekend.

Really wasn't fancying the journey to the Hyde in the treacherous conditions!

Statement from Roscommon GAA about Hyde Park being unplayable.

Statement regarding transfer of Match from Roscommon to Castlebar

It was with great regret that Roscommon GAA had to inform The Connacht Council of the GAA that the County Ground “Dr. Hyde Park” was going to be unplayable for the FBD game against Mayo.

This game had previously been moved from Ballinlough where it had traditionally been held every second year alternating with Ballyhaunis.

Roscommon GAA offered the secondary county ground St Brigid’s Kiltoom as the venue and Connacht Council GAA decided that this venue would not be in a position to accommodate the expected large crowd.

As the FBD league is a Connacht Council GAA event they decided to refix the game for Mc Hale Park Castlebar. Roscommon GAA regrets that we are unable to play Mayo in Roscommon on this occasion.

It is planned to install a new pitch in Hyde Park.

What has happened this week reinforces the need for this and will ensure it happens much sooner. Hopefully the Gaels of Roscommon will fully support Roscommon GAA in this venture and Club Rossie in the fund raising for it.

    Ends.
