There is. The intoxicating Liquor act prohibits the sale of Alcohol on Christmas day, the same as good Friday.

How could it be illegal I ask you. Christmas day is just a normal day and a premises can open and sell if they want, there is no law against it once they do not sell it after 10pm.

I don't think drink can be sold on Christmas Day, the shops are open good Friday but drink cannot be sold, I sure if it could be sold the pubs wouldn't be shut

Dial-a-drink. You'll need to find one that is a heathen with a strong work ethic. Shouldn't be too hard. It's almost part of the job description.

    Same as Good Friday.

    The act states
    3) From and after the passing of this Act it shall not be lawful for any person to sell or expose for sale any intoxicating liquor or to open or keep open any premises for the sale of intoxicating liquor on Christmas Day, Good Friday

    The act states

Wasn't the law supposed to have changed regarding the allowable sale of alcohol on good friday of which would mean christmas day as well.I thought it was up to the owner of the premises whether they wanted to sell it or not.

The church still has a grip on this country it seems.

I thought that law was already changed, ah well no big deal as this crazy law will be no longer come next year. Leo will be long gone by then I'd say, and so will the churches grip on the Island.

    100%. I wasn't, but I checked the act before I posted.

Not sure I'll trust you for anymore information even if you post 10times insisting that you are correct!

Well if they were allowed to sell alcohol on good friday and christmas day then it might have a better positive effect on folk instead of everyone running to the off-license and supermarkets stocking up and drinking much more in one go before it.

Op, as others have said it is illegal.

But here is another question, why be bothered wanting to know? Is it just being curious or do you plan on informing someone they sold it.

So much for me trying to get out of it. Right, I only sold 3 bottles, I'm trying to earn a living, please don't report me.

That's why all pubs should be closed

Well I'm impressed you posted without criticising the Catholic church.

I think you've been smoking too many herbs from your bongalong to make any sense I'm afraid.

Nope bin bags around the wine department oh well will be having a dry Christmas :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,766 ✭✭✭Bongalongherb

Does it really matter ? seriously. I'd say there's a few pubs open for the locals all over Ireland right now probably locked doors though only for the locals. Sure that draconian law will be gone soon, that's why I found it strange that they still implement it.

Some pubs have always opened for locals on christmas evening. No big deal. There's some weird laws in this country

I can't believe you don't understand about the black bin-bags. They are wrapped around all the alcohol so you can hide behind them and pick your beverage without being seen from outside.

You would swear that after-hours was the legal forum.

Does the OP just want to be a do gooder and repot them?? That's the impression I get from their post. I hope that's not the case.
