Hi, been looking bout online for an answer but to be honest im not really getting an answer (well one that i understand anyway)

I've been getting the uk freeview channels through a satellite for years and works perfectly but i'm want to swap out the box for a freeview plus one so that we can record and pause live telly etc.

I got one from Argos in enniskillen but it seems to use one of the normal terrestrial aerial connections as opposed to the type coming from the satellite dish. Can i just swap the connector on the end of the satellite connection or do i need a different type of box all together?

    Thanks.

Freeview is through an aeriel only, Freesat is through a dish only, are you sure your original box is not Freesat?

Freeview is UK digital terrestrial system (DTT) via an aerial. Freeview+ is a digital terrestrial PVR which works only via an aerial and for it to work in ROI you need to pick up a decent signal from N. Ireland or from Wales on the ROI eastern seaboard. AFAIK the only way to record/pause live UK channels if you cannot receive a decent DTT signal is to buy a Freesat PVR or subscribe to Sky. The box you have purchased cannot be used for anything but DTT. Personally if I were you I would return the box you have bought and invest in a Freesat PVR.

I was wondering if it would be something like that. We have two boxes in the house connected to the dish and both manuals refer to them as freeview boxes which is why i went for the freeview plus as opposed to the freesat. Theres not much on the boxes when ya google em either so probably just cheap ones with a doggy translation for the english manual. Shouldnt be a prob just to bing it back after xmas and swap it for a freesat one anyway.

    Thanks for the help.

No wonder there's confusion out there when manuals use word 'freeview' to describe a satellite box. Maybe it is there to distinguish a FTA satellite box from official Freesat branded box but it's confusing all the same. Official Freesat PVR is your answer. The Humax Foxsat gets good reviews.

    What kind of boxes?

Have to say I've been through a fair few manuals in my time but can't recall use of the word 'freeview', small or big 'f'.

'Free-to-view' maybe, at best, would be interesting to know if the Freeview brand is actually being misused on satellite receivers.
