Wages before Christmas?

Usually my company receives salary on the last Friday of the month - however generally is an exception made to standard payment protocols to take into account the Xmas season? Just want to know the norm here as it seems most of my friends have received December salary already but my company seems to be sticking to last Friday rule. Is it simply down to the discretion of the employer and there is no hard and fast rule here?

Whatever is in your contract. Some companies choose to pay early but that's entirely at their discretion and I imagine they're probably in the minority - they're certainly not under any obligation to do so.

Employers discretion I'm afraid. I'm the same and in the last few years have gotten it on the second last Friday of December. This year however it came on Tuesday gone. I think with the last Friday being so far back, it's just a tad early to have on the second last Friday, but every employer will make their own call.

For us, it's the second last banking day of the month. So this December, we got paid on Tuesday, as that was the second last banking day before Christmas.

We get paid forthnightly- on Thursdays (normally- unless someone somewhere bolloxes things up- which happens more frequently than it really should). We are due to be paid next Thursday the 31st of December- without any change to our normal pay schedule (if everything goes according to plan). In cases where there is a bank holiday- or banks or closed- the payment is normally moved forward by a day or so- to the nearest bank working day.

The last Friday of the month is tomorrow - the banks are not open.

Personally I paid the wages a week earlier than usual - I wanted it done well before I finished for Christmas.
