NCT opening hours over Christmas/driving without NCT in Europe

    Went for my NCT yesterday and the car failed because a bulb in the back was gone and I hadn't removed the hubcaps. Not a problem, removed hubcaps easily and should be able to get bulb quite quickly too but when I phoned up the NCT main number, they are closed today - and from what I can see on the website, all the test centres are closed until 4th January. I assumed they would be open today, 27th, 28th etc - any non public holiday days.

    Anyway I'm a bit stuck because I have to drive to eastern Europe on the 2nd and won't be back until next summer.

    Does anyone know if there's an emergency centre or procedure? Will I be driving illegally and uninsured in Europe if I can't get the NCT before I leave?

    If you're driving on the 2nd January, you'll do NCT no problem between 27th and 31st Dec as you mentioned.

    Driving all across Europe without NCT would be risky, especially if your insurer stipulates that NCT is a requirement in their policy document.
    (most insurers do now, but some still don't).

    Do you think test centres will be open? There's a banner on the website that says some centres are open over the holidays but then when I go into opening hours it says closed everyday - maybe they just didn't update that part. Argh, getting panicky!

    Thanks, had a feeling that might be the case. Especially if I'm still in the EU.

    Sorry you're right I found one! Northpoint 2 is open 29th & 30th! Panic over...
