Bought a bottle of this from Lidl yesterday to drink with desert tomorrow.

Anyone have any experience of these wines? It says to drink at 8--10 degrees Celsius, I guess that means room temperature more or less.

I assume it will go with whatever desert we are having?

Fridge temp is about 5 degrees.
    Room temperature is around 19.

I'd take it out of the fridge halfan hhour before serving or leave it outside for a few hours.

Glad I posted this thread as I wasn't planning on putting it in the fridge at all !

Icewine needs to be well chilled before drinking. So definitely keep it in the fridge and maybe give a few minutes to warm ever so slightly.

    Enjoy!!

    I thought it was awful.
Sweeter than any desert I could have possibly had with it, sickly sweet.

    vile stuff.

That's the point of a sweet wine. There's an extremely high level of residual sugar. I absolutely love sweet wines, but they do need to be paired with equally sweet food, or else cheese / foie gras type dishes

    Thanks Dudara,

I'm well aware of a sweet wine is suppose to be and enjoy a huge amount of them. The hint is in the name of the wine :)

This particular one is very heavy and sickly which is not the point of sweet wine. You would find it very difficult to find a desert sweeter than this and the thickness etc it's completely out of balance

I haven't tried this ice wine, so can't comment. The beauty of a botrytis wine (like a Sauternes) is that it picks up marmalade, citrus notes from the fungus which often helps balance the sweetness. With an ice wine, you're less likely to have this. Will try to pick up a bottle for myself to see what it's like.

I understand, I don't think I've ever been so disappointed by any buy from Lidl or Aldi previously.

But I'd really hope I could talk you out of this one. If it was less than a tenner I'd say go mad...but at 17.99 I feel you're throwing money away on this. If they gave me a free bottle with my next shop I wouldn't drink it. That's how bad it was.
