Just wondering about people's experience with the gas dehorner. My current electric one packed in and I'm looking at a gas replacement. Guilbert Express is the model, little 60g gas canister for €5. Anyone know what I can expect to get out of a can?
    Thanks!

Have this one- the Portasol. On our second one as one went awol, presumed stolen.

Nice and light and easy to use. Not too hard on gas either, we'd use about a can a year and that's about 40 calves. That's a very rough estimation as I do our own and all calves belonging to a couple of other guys near here. Use Ronson to refill, the 300ml one.

    Any other feedback?

This is the only show in town at an affordable price. No bollixing. Jeez when I think of hooking up to the old Calor canisters or rolling out extension leads for the leccy one and waiting for it to heat

Portasol dehorner is the best, as far as I can remember a fill will last 20 mins to half an hour, and the 300 ml refill does a few years with me (I get better calves per gallon than Kovu!)

It's light, it's handy, clean the head after each calf, DON'T put it in the box hot :D and it will last a good while.

The only criticism is it's hard to see how much gas is still in it, but then again that could just be my eyesight..........

Ha! I must count next year, Dad could well have replaced the gas can without my knowledge :D
I don't have any problem seeing the remaining gas, just tilt it in the light so you can see the bubble of air. Sure when no more gas fits in, it's full ;)

Look to be around £100 sterling, can see them in Fane Valley Stores, Ebay & Amazon. That was only a quick look so probably a few other stockists.
A lot of agri stores would have them too.

I bought a Portasol 3 gas dehorner a few years ago in the local co op store and find it very good.
If you ring Portasol they'll tell you the local stockists.
