Converting to commercial and importing Audi Q7 from UK

    I'm looking to buy and Audi Q7 3 litre (7 seater) and from what I'm told, I can buy it in the UK, convert it to commercial by taking out the 2 rear seats which leaves a normal 5 seater.

    This apparently reduces the VRT to commercial to 13% and allows me to tax it as a commercial for just over €300 as opposed to €1500.

    Anybody done this?

    however u will pay full BIK on the NEW value according to this table see here

    Annual Business Kilometric Thresholds Cash Equivalent ( % of OMV )
    24,135 or less 30%
    24,136 to 32,180 24%
    32,181 to 40,225 18%
    40,226 to 48,270 12%
    48,271 and over 6%

    this is interesting... not sure if u can though... as to qualify for N1 category, Revenue Cat b

    Light Commercial Vehicles may also qualify for the Revenue Category C rate (applicable to heavier Commercial vehicles - see below), depending on their load carrying capacity. A vehicle that at all stages of manufacture is classified as a category N1 vehicle with less than 4 seats, and has, at any stage of manufacture, a technically permissible maximum laden mass that is greater than 130 per cent of the mass in service of the vehicle with body work in running order, may be categorised as Revenue Category C for VRT purposes only.
    This does not apply to Motor Caravans.

    'Technically Permissible Laden Mass' & 'Mass in Service' can be obtained from the vehicle’s Certificate of Conformity or the Vehicle Registration Certificate.



    Example 4: N1 vehicle (at all stages of manufacture)

    Current No. of Seats = 3

    No. of Seats Previously = 5

    This vehicle does not qualify for the €200 rate of VRT as it has not been, at all stages of manufacture, classified as a category N1 vehicle with less than 4 seats.

    There's a company that caters for this. Seen them advertising on donedeal. They do commercial conversions, crew cab conversions etc

    Surely there are plenty of used commercial Q7s for sale here at reasonable prices, they were the epitome of the Celtic Tiger era and when the crash came the arse fell out of their resale values.

    They went on sale in 2006, doubt there was too many commercial variants sold before the sh1t hit the fan tbh. The beginning of the recession was 2007/2008 iirc.

    There are 3 on donedeal at the moment, the cheapest being a 2007 asking €13k. 7 on Carzone, €23k for a 2008. They don't seem overly cheap asking price wise, they are both 2 seaters too.

    Also the OP is looking for a 5 seat one commercially taxed, narrows it down further.

    To please the revenue that it is a commercial vehicle it has to be converted in such a way that it can't be converted back. Side Windows need to be removed and metal welded in their place. Window winds/motors need to be removed. You can put tinted glass over this to hide it if you wish. Seat and seat belt anchors must be removed.

    You'll have to spend money getting dashboard converted from miles to kilometres if manufacture date is after we changed from miles.

    Oh I agree, 100%.

    3/4 years ago most full fat commercial 4WDs were going for small money, even Landcruisers were a bit of value.

    Anyone trying to sell a commercial Q7 a few years back would have had sell at a sale price :) Decent enough demand again for commercials a few years old and as very few were purchased in the last 5 years or so the supply is practically non existent.
