Yes, it's that time of the year again when we're asking you to participate in our little annual tradition. The first batch of nomination threads is open over in our spiffy dedicated film awards forum. Two more batches will follow in the coming days - we intend getting them up pretty close to each other this year - and then the nominations will be totted up and final voting will happen!

Don't worry - the nomination threads will be kept open into the New Year if you had been intending on catching up on anything over your Christmas break. We'll make sure to post reminders when the nomination threads will be closed.

So go nominate your films now - the general 'best film' batch is open now :)

    For future years:

Does anyone think we should drop the Worst Film award? Seems like there’s too much overlap with Most Overrated and Most Disappointing. Like pixelburp said in the thread, most people won’t have seen the truly terrible films in a given year.

I agree we could lose a category in 'walk of shame', although I've always found more overlap between 'most disappointing' and 'most overrated'. They're both sort of 'meh' awards whereas I'd consider 'worst film' actively bad.

It's true that most of us will not have seen the worst stuff out there - but by the same extent would most have seen a broad enough selection for many of the other categories? I think it's a fact we just have to live with that nobody is going to be nominating having seen everything :)

    Maybe lose Most Overrated then.

Should Beasts of No Nation be eligible? Personally I would have no problem with people voting for it, but I don't think it was given a cinema release here?
It's an interesting example of how things are changing in terms of film production and release schedules.

The same argument could be made against Junun, which has been nominated in the Best Documentary category. If a film premieres online/streaming should it qualify?

Yeah, straight-to-DVD and straight-to-VOD releases are eligible, as long as they are movies not television and were released in Ireland in 2015.

    Hi everyone,

Sorry for a bit of a delay here, the boards outage last week set things back a couple of days. But we've have tabulated (the word of the day!) the nominations and we'd now invite you to vote!

You can do so here: http://bit.ly/1OOReho

As ever we'd like to thank Mr E for his help in putting the survey together. Please give him a virtual round of applause (or an actual one, if you wish, although we can't guarantee he'll hear it).
