Utterly dire! At the very best 1mb, but line drops every hr or so, and speed is limited to 0.25mb until ya flick the router on and off.

    Broadband? HA!

Use an O2 yokey with a 15gb limit and then when I run out, I have 5gb to tether off my phone. Both are quite fast though so only for the limits I'd be happy. Going over the limits has cost me about €250 in extra charges this year :pac::(
Can get satellite broadband so hope to get that in the New Year.

ditto only have a 30gb limit, they crucify you when you go over the limit. tried of the fixed broadband again earlier this year to see if it was any better...half the speed of the mobile.

looked at everything except satellite but due to geography + trees I'm not sure how well that would work(might have to put the dish out in the field)

Ours is going up down at the slatted shed and using a router to bring it up here. Had it about six years ago but got rid of it when both my brother and I left the house as the parents didn't use it enough. Company has changed hands since so I don't think the satellite that is still in place can be resurrected.

I heard on the radio the other day that the government are promising broadbroad nationwide within the next 5years. looking for a private company to take it on and they will be given a 25year contract.

l wouldn't hold my breath though! Good broadband an essential service at this stage.

We will be looked upon by the youth of the next generation as cavemen with no proper broadband the same way as we scratch our heads at our forefathers not having running water or having to go out and cock their ass by the ditch.

'Lord jaysus how did they survive with no reliable internet connection! !!!?????'

its a hell of a lot better than the old dial up eircom internet on windows 95.
around 2mbs now and fairly reliable like the esb in the old days you would never know when it might cut out for a few hours.

It is good in NCD but I only have a mobile modem with 30gb per month. Seriously expensive if you go over your plan. I have been caught out a few times with my sons downloading stuff.
Horrendous reception in Longford and it is connected via the phone line. You cannot use the laptop and a mobile at the same time or else the signal dies.
Forget about downloading or watching a film/Youtube.

I've all you can eat data on 4Gon the phone from three, its brilliant
Usually 30 to 50 mb download speeds
Tethering is allowed on the plan
Films on netflix come in on the tv in full hd instantly

We still have landline broadband but its going
10mb down load speed on that
No point keeping it when three does the biz

This is mine on the Three data package. Grand stuff but annoying if you want to watch something as it eats data.

Westnet here the last month, €35 per month unlimited. Netflix on TV, YouTube on phone and iPad very happy so far. Had Vodafone 15g mobile wifi. Not afraid to click on a video in a link now!

We have 1.5Mb download here. It's reasonably reliable. Upload is awful.

1.5 is just enough to call it broadband. We get bye with it but in reality in this day and age 50Mb should be the entry point.

Big advantage is were on unlimited download. I might set off half dozen movies downloading overnight and they are done sometime the next day.
    Streaming works - just.

I should also ad that inorder to get the mobile internet to work we needed to get a signal booster. Before that it was a struggle to send a txt

I'm also with Three, and they enabled 4G here a few weeks ago:

    €39.99/month with a 60GB cap.

Satellite broadband here ,very good 5 Mb constant with unlimited download .also have dodgy box for TV costing 100 for year with about 1500 channels .broadband costing 50 euro per month

I'm using Meteor Mobile Broadband, download speed is quite good (usually 4G), the downside is the 30 GB cap. I'm paying €25 per month for it, I'd be willing to pay twice as much if the cap was removed but there's no option to do that.

Downloading large files (movies etc.), streaming of sports and Netflix are out of the question as the cap would be reached too quickly with even moderate usage.

The crappy phone line can only manage 1mb at best so that's a non runner.

I have landline broadband with Vodafone. I live about 1km from Mullingar. It's absolutly rubbish. I get around 1~2mb download. It constantly drops too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,485 ✭✭✭✭whelan2

We have imagine wimax . Was brilliant for a few years. House phone with them too. Now it's very unreliable. Parents and sister with them too. As it is none of us can get broadband with anyone else. In 2015 it's a joke. Brother in law used to work from home he can't now as it's so unreliable

    Landline Vodafone. Unlimited broadband.
E 53.29 a month including so much landline calls.

A white box screwed to the chimney with the aerial, cable running into the attic to the box with a short cable running to the inside aerial(pic) that pokes through the ceiling
I think it was 300 quid...have it a good while now, there were cheaper ones that wouldn't of done 3G and there are ones now that will do 4g
