You ring them up and transfer it over to the new car when you are collecting it, depending on the insurance company they may charge you an administration fee + whatever amount they deem the premium may decrease/increase to on the 320d. A Passat and 320d probably have different premiums.

    Ask the insurer.

Definitely pay a fee,I did twice when i changed my car,and also a week later again as new car was getting work done,so I needed a replacement car from the garage, disgusted, e 48 each time, liberty insurance, bad taste in my mouth since,if I can ,I'm changing company next time

A lot of companies will do a temporary switch, particularly for a car you don't own such as the case of a loaner car from a garage. 48 euro each way would be very hard to swallow!!

OP, my guess would be that there will be a jump in your policy, I think the BM will be more expensive to insure but probably not massively. Also there is nearly always an admin fee. Although some companies will allow you to make the switch online for free. Axa and Allianz do I believe...

Been with Allianz about 5 years now and have temporary transferred without charge many times. Reminds me actually I was thinking of starting a thread awhile back getting people's opinions on insurance companies on all things other than the premium. Allianz have been a pleasure to deal with over the years, but then again I've never had a claim. I'd like to know how they would be with one.

Another thumbs up for Allianz from me. Have used the temporary transfer, and they allowed me to transfer free of charge for way longer then they normally would too with no issue!
They were also quite reasonable with my quote compared to the others I tried at the time! Never had a claim with them, fingers crossed I never will!

Was with several insurance companies, liberty are the first to charge me,queried it of course, company policy I was told, and they're pretty sure most Irish companies do likewise

axa allow 2 temp transfers a year, and it's about 22 euro a go after that. For me at least.
