Seems decent enough, especially with the full HD screen. Battery says it's only 2-cell though? I wonder would that have a negative effect on run time?

Thanks for the replies. Using for MS office, CAD CAM (Bobcad), tube bending software (Bend tech _ which is running very slow on my 8 yr old Dell 6400), itunes etc,
No gaming, but I want to future proof as much as possible.

Thanks, that's looks nice but way too expensive for me right now.
Ideally I was hoping to stay under 500 and have at 15" screen minimum. But getting an i5 for under 500 seems difficult.

One frustrating thing is most laptops seem to come with a dvd drive, which I don't want. Would prefer an SSD instead.

Is an i3 going to be noticably slower than an i5?

You can always swap out the optical drive for an SSD

The laptop in your original post would be perfect for your needs and if you swapped out the hard drive for a Samsung EVO SSD it would be a pleasure to use.

Thanks for the advice on this. Picked it up today in PC World. Price dropped last night from €549 when I posted the first link to €495 so got it for under the 500 target.
Going through set up at the moment. So far so good.
Going to pull the disk drive as suggested and fit an SSD in there on which I will put programs and then just keep the 1TB disk for data.
Any quick recommendations on how to move the operating system and all installed programs to the SSD when I get it?

What would you be using the laptop for?

From that bunch I'd choose this if you would like the 13.3 inch screen

    http://www.currys.ie/Mobile/Product/hp-pavilion-x360-13s150sa-133-2-in-1-silver/335088/401.10#ctl00_ctl00__nestedContent__mainpageContent_ProductFamilyDetailsView1_liProductDetails

Or this if you prefer the larger screen

    http://www.currys.ie/Mobile/Product/toshiba-satellite-l50c22l-156-laptop-white/334893/401.0.0#ctl00_ctl00__nestedContent__mainpageContent_ProductFamilyDetailsView1_liProductDetails

The HP one would be quicker out of the box as it has an SSD installed which will give you faster boot times and overall would make the system very snappy.
